Going to be the way spending gets back under control for the "have-nots" in college athletics.
Utterly foolish to decapitate your own interests by relegating yourselves to second class status. I do not support this nonsense. Include all conference champs in an expanded playoffs instead.

That is what they've voted for...I'm not quite sure why this idea pops up ever.

I'm with you on this. Do not cheapen your own product by your own hand. Hang tough for a bigger piece of pie. I do not think this will happen so I'm not too worried.
Big mistake!03-puke
G5 teams already relegated, what is the big deal ? It's insuring that these teams get more part of the pie (money). Let's not kid ourselves, live in the reality. The power conferences will only grab more.
I was adamantly opposed to this idea in the beginning. I want to feel Toledo belongs at this level , but reality as defined by NIL, TV contracts, etc. is telling a different story. Is it 1 AA, or a realistic chance at a title?

All those things tell that story because they don't want to share monies. The reality is even with all the advantages, 80% of P5 schools don't have a realistic chance at a national title or even a Conference title. G5 has a chance because of the Portal. Too much talent that can't get on the field or players that decided they want to play in front of family and friends, etc. Just need to accumulate and develop the right talent.

You are exactly right, Boca. Many privileged 5 schools are riding the coat tails of the legitimate national contenders in the conference. The lower tier privileged 5 schools better hope the conference contenders don’t start eye balling their cut. That’s how greedy people work.

It is such a different approach these days as highlighted by Nick Saban’s comments on draft day 1 about QM being their #1 portal target. UT has been able to get some guys, but Toledo’s best are highly sought and likely to get paid well on transferring.

But may get a better NFL shot and bigger signing bonus payday, developing while staying at UT.
I cannot htink of a model where a playoff is financially feasible. Who is broadcasting? Who is watching? Would have to play games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to get a TV slot, thus no butts in seats. Just stupid.

I don't think many people watch the I-AA playoffs. I don't think a Championship game between Texas- San Antonio and Arkansas State moves the needle. Keep the current bowl system without a championship game.

The Arizona Bowl had more viewers on the CW than the FCS Championship on ABC.
