I would love to see Rice Athletics partner with the Rice School of Architecture to sponsor a competition for student teams to plan and design renovations for Rice Stadium as one of their keystone projects. The various completed projects design poster boards and models could be displayed throughout the stadium (and maybe other places in the community) during the season and generate interest among the fans about renovations to the stadium. While I don't think that the final projects could actually be used s the "right way" to move forward with renovations, it would be fun, a solid educational experience for the architecture students, with some great ideas and features that might be generated that could be used in the actual project, and it would get the community, fans and students engaged in the program.

That's a good idea. Points
How does that school have that kind of money for this?
Like, when SMU spends $200M it's with a clear outcome at the end (joining ACC), so the investment arguably makes financial sense and I assume SMU is a wealthier institution. But Memphis??

$120 million of it is taxpayer dollars, according to the article. $50 million is a gift from a private donor, provided the university can raise $50 million in matching funds from smaller donors.
Are they spending any of that money on picking it up and moving it to a new neighborhood?

Oh, thanks. I skimmed the piece but didn't see those numbers. That makes more sense now.

FWIW, what a waste of taxpayer dollars...
Well when is Rice steping up the plate. We keep hearing the delay after delay.

No word from Austin on the $120 million grant yet.

When some wealthy alum writes a check. And not until then. The Rice Way.

I had heard that the stadium project had been delayed even further after the new AD took over. I’m not sure if it was because of a new change of design or funding or both. I was reassured that it was definitely happening… but no new timeline revealed.
We won't hear anything about it until the designs are finished and the cash is in hand. Rice isn't going to put any added pressure on itself by trying to keep everyone updated. It will remain in the dark until brought into light.
