It appears something is amiss. Is it Big Green Support? Poor oversight/management? Our women's programs have never been stronger. Is that typical of other G5's? It's odd seeing Marshall's two premier men's sports in such disarray.

Forgive me but I am totally out of touch with Huntington these days and other than obvious observations, I'm at a loss.

I totally agree, and I don't know what to tell you. Basketball is a poop show right now. They did lose some quality players from last year, but the bench should have been prepared and should always be prepared. Just like Huff saying last year that our backups weren't ready LOL.

Huff has this year (a year of no excuses) to right the ship. He either does a great job (for me that is a minimum of 9 wins) and he either gets an extension, gets fired or gets hired away.

D'antoni needs to retire. Look I appreciate everything he's done for Marshall, I really do. I just think it's time. I mean it's not like winning in the SBC is a major achievement. We should be rolling all over these guys just like the WBB team is.

Caldwell... we need to do whatever it takes to keep her here. I wonder if she would consider coaching the Men's team 03-shhhh
We are currently a Soccer and Women's Basketball school.
Sorry in advance for the long post but I have to get this out.

When I was more heavily involved, politics was our demon. Since we moved to FBS, I can't remember one coaching hire that was the result of a full search and logical decision. Snyder and Doc, along with the last 4 MBB coaches were hired by the donor who gave the most money for "their" guy or by nepotism (previously related to Marshall).

Then the BOG was polluted with WVU grads that, to me, were clearly biased on their decisions which resulted in many faux pas at a time when Marshall was a hot commodity. We saw similar schools pass us by (Boise State, UCF and now App St) with plans that built on their near-term success.

I'm not familiar with Spears, but our previous hires have been less than stellar. Hamrick and Marcum were nepotism hires (MU grads). Coker was hired because several of our coaches were from VT. Lance West was the only hire I recall that was completed correctly, per the WV State hiring process. Marcum, IMO, set us back decades and almost cost us all support from our athletic alumni base. When I was working closely with the Gridiron Foundation, he did everything in his power to stop it because he wanted to control all donations.
BP lost his job because he caught Angel misappropriating funds and threatened to move on it if the funds weren't returned. Since it was a move that was approved by the BOG, Pruett didn't stand a chance and Marcum let him hang.
Hamrick was heading for retirement when he got here.

Nepotism, booster pampering, jealousy, and poor performance has run rampant through the athletic department.

I'm certain we're not the only school with a mess like this but can anyone tell me where we have improved?

I agree with everything you said 100%. I have thought these exact same thoughts over and over throughout the years. I do feel really good with Brad Smith as our President. Would be a good idea if someone who is a better wordsmith than me, could create a letter just like this and make sure everyone in the MU Admin and BOG get a copy. WOuld be nice to let them all know that we've been paying attention and we know what they're doing.

If only it would make a difference GB. Politics are politics. Those in charge KNOW they're in charge and couldn't care less about what we think. Only the elite. I don't about you but 1 mega donor will donate more that I made in a lifetime... so I know my level of clout - little to none. I've seen it too many times. :(
