This will go over very well in Statesboro.
Must be fake news. AppManDG says GSU is "not very appealing to coaches" in his exact words. Couldn't possibly lure a huge college football name like Dell McGee from a perennial National Championship powerhouse program while taking a PAYCUT. Couldn't possibly be EAGER to work in downtown Atlanta when he's already LIVING THE LIFE in rural town like Athens.

(but seriously, Dell Mcgee was most likely Charlie Cobb's first choice since the day after Shawn Elliott left town + the talk is that McGee absolutely nailed the interview)
Ugh
Very Charles Huff feel to it.

That is the seal of approval from a rival if I have ever seen one.

He is a position coach and has never been more than that. He has gotten zero offers where he would not have to take a pay cut. If he wanted to be a HC he was going to have to take a G5 or FCS job first. What P5 is lining up to take a position coach and pay him millions? thUGA has had multiple OC changes and he was never considered as a replacement candidate or gotten an OC offer from any other school that I know of. Good luck.
According to Football Scoop the other favorite was Buster Faulkner. We have had several OCs that we disliked but I doubt any any more than Buster. Might make a good HC but up here that would bring a huge gag reflex.

sports fans are quality entertainment. you see polar opposite takes within the 24hrs span!

Before the news (ctrl+v ACTUAL responses from various fanbases on twitter): "You don’t accomplish what Dell has and leave for G. State." "The job he has is better. Why leave? Less pay and less resources?" "Lmao he ain’t leaving for a sunbelt job…" "Why would he take a downgrade? Did you just need something to post and this is the best you can think of?" "He is overqualified"

After the news, you also see those with completely opposite opinions: "he's underqualified for anything else"

As for me, I'm gonna go with Barrett Sallee. The man knows ATL. He has established networks in metro Atlanta. Most importantly, he's not going to waste hundreds of hours commuting back and forth from Atlanta to Columbia, SC for personal reasons. Those factors by themselves would make this hire worthwhile imo.

I was curious about Faulkner's connection with Arkansas State, because I remembered his name from his time in the SBC before. I thought what Faulkner did with a bunch of random players at Georgia Tech was pretty impressive. Dell McGee, Bryan McClendon, Faulkner, Willie Simmons (current assistant at Duke, 66-24 as the head coach of FAMU and PVAMU) were a great pool of final candidates. Dell McGee has the most famous reputation of all but couldn't go wrong with any of those names.

I am not saying he sucks or cant be good but there is zero evidence for either position. That is the difference I am not saying either way but the excitement is not based on anything tangible for HC. The fanatic position is to say he has no chance if not a fan of GSU and he is a "homerun" hire on the other side. Both are equally ridiculous. We all know media opinions are based on click bait, pandering, pushing buttons etc etc Sallee is a regional goober that has done nothing as well he is the Dell McGee of writers lol. I dont think he breaks 100K a year. Not rooting against the guy just saying nothing to hate or love about it at this point.
Buster Faulkner would be a terrible hire.

Dell McGee seems like a great hire. His name has been floated around at multiple G5's. He was on Troy's very short list.
His strengths clearly “course correct” Elliott’s weaknesses. But time will tell if his weaknesses are hiding where Elliott’s strengths thrived.
We shall see. And that will be the case with just about every head coach hire in the Sun Belt.

Right, he could be a guy to really build relationships with Atlanta area schools.

But let's be honest, Charles Huff has more college coaching experience than McGee and was known as the top recruiters in the country. When his DC left he's been in trouble.

Anyone who thinks they're going to win out-recruiting everyone in this league is just nuts. You've got to have guys that can build schemes around players strengths and just teach football.

Given how different HC is from any other position (especially now with NIL and TP) that unless you are hiring away a peer HC there will never be a way to tell if someone will be a HC.

This is bang on, others have taken pay cuts to get Head Coach on the resume because it’s needed down the road to truly cash in. Years ago Cignetti was the head recruiter and WR coach at Bama and took a massive payout to take a D2 HC job because being a HC would further his career. He parlayed that into FCS with Elon and JMU, and then truly cashed in at Indiana. Taking a step backwards in pay today while increasing overall responsibilities to then bolt for greener pastures isn’t new to this industry.

Buster was not well like at stAte, whatsoever. However, there was some talk after he left that Anderson did not let him play calls at all. So, the offense that we were disgusted by may have been 100% controlled by Blake Anderson. If this is true, it doesn't mean Buster is a great coach. But, I was surprised by what he did at Georgia Tech.
That's great for Georgia State. Congratulations.

If I remember right his OC title was taken away and he became tight end coach drawing OC pay. Once his contract ran out he left.
This absolutely inhales vigorously if true.

Game changer.

Concerned.
