Just a shout out to the Wrestling team. At 10-2 with losses to Purdue and Rider. They are poised to have a run at the Conference championship again. Go Huskies.
Huge last few wins
No doubt, our wrestling coach has this program doing well right now.

CMU used to be the cream of MAC wrestling and dominated for many years. We put a whooping on CMU.
It has helped the conference competitiveness immensely with Missouri (currently ranked #2 in the country) leaving the MAC after 2021. They were in the MAC for nine years…..and won all nine conference championships.

Izzak Olenjik who left NIU as a graduate transfer after last year is currently ranked #4 for Oklahoma State. He did lose 8-1 last weekend to the #2 ranked wrestler.

Coach Ludwig has done a great job with limited resources.

@ Buffalo tomorrow at 11AM.
I enjoy winning
Ryan Ludwig is the best head coach at NIU. Am I wrong?

Then won every conference championship while they were in the MAC? Embarassing.

Yes, they won all nine. Missouri joined the MAC for wrestling when they moved their athletic programs from the B12 to the SEC, as the SEC doesn’t offer wrestling as a sponsored sport. In 2022, the B12 allowed them back in as an associate member. Not all that embarrassing, as Missouri is a traditional national top ten program, however, it left the other MAC schools wrestling for second place.
Huskies beat Buffalo today 18-16, now 11-2/5-1.
Glad the wrestling team in doing very well! A conference championship would be nice!
Was an awesome win over Buffalo. Came down to the final tussle.
NIU Wrestling has been competitive for a long time. Missu brought the level of competition up in the conference. CMU also had a good run. There were a few other good teams that had a stint in the MAC as well. Anyway, it is good to see them winning.
What happened to the NIU Wrestling team in the MAC Championship? If I recall, they only had one conference loss the entire season and won the MAC West. In the Championship they finished 7th and behind three other West teams.

It certainly was a very disappointing result at the MAC tournament. However, wrestling is so different than other sports. Tournament wrestling is entirely different from dual meet wrestling…….and they actually require slightly different team strengths, thus, success in one doesn’t necessarily transfer to the other.

Dual meet wrestling requires that you be good up and down your entire lineup, while in tournament wrestling, you need great wrestlers at a few weight classes to advance/win multiple weight classes. We had zero MAC champions, and only two NIU wrestlers made a title match, which was certainly reflected in the final tournament results.
It's a tournament not a dual-season, two completely different things.
Although it was a disappointing tourney result, they still had one wrestler make it to the NCAA tourney. Ironically, finishing 7th compared to a top 3 team finish is about 3-4 matches to go your way. The matches they lost hurt big time. Anyway, the streak is still alive for sending at least one to the NCAA.
