IDK what happened in the second quarter; had to miss it. But NIU was 24-18 after 1st, then something happened. BGSU outscored NIU in the 2nd ... 22-2. Maybe the post-game will explain.
One possibility: Points off turnovers, 17-6 BGSU.
Another: FG%, BGSU 59 to 38 (rounded).
NIU now 9-11 (3-6). Nine games left before MACT (+ 1 o-o-c = 10). BGSU is 11-8 (5-4).
Perhaps it is not at the same rate as men's basketball, but this program is also regressing. Extremely disappointing these days being a Huskie hoops fan.
Official attendance @ BGSU was 2,420. IDK but watched some and they had a good crowd. Hell we can't draw half that at home for MBB.
Next is Feb. 7 hosting Ball State (as of right now, 19-2 and 9-0 conference).
Then Feb. 10 MAC-SBC Challenge hosting Georgia Southern; right now 13-8 overall. NIU lost the MAC-SBC road game at Arkansas State 75-62 in November.

You are correct. Attendance does not matter, nor do wins. The only things that matter are good academic records and - more importantly - DEI. DEI is the mantra of STF and Lisa Freeman.
This is why I want nothing more to do with NIU Athletics and the university itself. NIU Athletics sucks and will always suck under the leadership of STF. After all these years of this crap, I have had enough. I am literally sick from sitting at these games and watching disgustingly bad playing and coaching. Why should I keep paying good money to be disgusted and upset? I have stopped watching the games because I already know the outcome and I don't need to upset myself anymore. I have cancelled all my season tickets, and my donations have stopped. I have much better, more enjoyable uses for the money.
I am also disgusted with the university. I have enough of Lisa Freeman's DEI to vomit gallons. Her thing is DEI while the university is crumbling, both academically and physically. I was appalled at that seminar the university sponsored, "The Hegemony of White Linguistics". Guess what? I speak white linguistics, and the money I have made and used to donate to NIU was earned with my white linguistics. I am sick and tired of this liberal woke sh!t.
I was on campus a couple weeks ago, and I was aghast at what I saw. The Village Commons Plaza is virtually empty with most stores abandoned. I also made the mistake of driving down Hillcrest. I could not believe what I saw, including an abandoned building with the windows boarded up. The campus looks EXACTLY like a south side Chicago ghetto.
Anyway, I wish you guys the best. I may or may not be on this board again. If you are wise, be good to your health and take a break from all this.

Hold the door for me. I am joining you and well said. All the people blaming Covid, state population, blah, blah do not get to the heart of the problem which is Freeman. She never deserved or should have been appointed President. The slide is due to her lack of vision and leadership. No surprise with all the boarded up businesses, you are missing 8k in student population. If you told me this would be NIU 2024 as I sat in the Orange bowl 10 years ago, I would have told you that you are crazy. I have stopped donating to NIU, and I have told them why. I now follow my daughter's college teams more than NIU. Just a sad state of affairs.
While I do feel, like others, our university has poor leadership at the University and Athletics level, I will continue my donations to both and continue to buy season football tickets. I enjoy the Saturday games I can make and tailgating with family and friends. I don't enjoy or bother myself with weekday games and I don't blame those who don't live in the nearby 30-minute radius of DeKalb for not attending those. It's such a hassle when not close by and I have a job and other commitments on weekdays. I'd rather every game be on Saturday so I can attend more games.
I don't let these losses affect me as much as in my 20s. These are all just kids playing a game and trying to earn an education. I'm proud that many of them represent my alma mater and do it in a classy way. I really did enjoy Rocky Lombardi. He was, and I hope continues to be, a great ambassador for NIU Football and our University.
At one of the Saturday games this year we hung out with a group of NIU law school students, and it was fun getting to know them, their backgrounds, and see that there are indeed quality students who choose NIU. They all had good things to say about our law program too.
You are not alone, Dog Fan. I have had many conversations recently with fellow alumni that share the same sentiment. For someone who lives for those fall tailgates at Huskie Stadium, I never thought I’d be here. Yet here I am.

I get annoyed and the same stuff over and over that this admin has done the last 4-5 years, but cutting all ties with NIU isn't the solution.
I'm not trying to tell you 3 what to do with your time or money, but a cash strapped school (has always been and only getting worse) needs support from everyone it possibly can get to be somewhat successful. I understand not giving money to the certain colleges or just general fund as you see it supporting Freeman and STF's agendas.
I would hope that fellow diehards like yourselves reconsider and still stay connected to the university by donating to the programs, like wrestling, volleyball or even womens basketball that don't get funding or worry about NIL at a school like NIU.
Pulling your support only hurts the students/athletes more (in my opinion), as the upper management is not going to be changing anytime soon and the athletic programs are basically running on fumes as it is.

Damn Dogfan. I see and feel your anger. I also feel the same way. However I will continue to support the university and it's students as a fan and volunteer. I won't be donating or re upping on season tickets. But I'll watch the games, wear red and black and come down to volunteer when I can.
I don't agree with the initiatives they've been working on. Sure they are a series of issues affecting the overall quality of NIU. However those same things affect other schools who have seem to found their way around them. So we shouldn't be making excuses for ourselves and accepting defeat as the new normal. Recently, I was in Ohio the other weekend and had a chance to scope out the competition. Unfortunately I feel like they have better set ups than us. And all I could think of was, why couldn't we have a few nice things?
Anyway, if you do decide to depart, I completely understand. I would also like to thank you for years of banter and discussion of hotdogs and The Grotto. Take care brother.
Just want to echo the thanks to DogFan for all the contributions and as much as understand and agree with his concerns, please don't completely give up. Sometimes just taking a break helps and you never know when something might happen that renews your pride and happiness. I keep hoping for either the men's or women's basketball programs to be conference challengers again, but a few years ago it did my Huskie heart good to see the men's soccer team host an NCAA match, win it and advance. Life is not so good when our Huskies are at the back of the pack because the only view is the other MAC ********. But oh when NIU is the lead dog, boy is it fun.
