Coming in with a record of 3-6, 0-2 conf. Biggest wins have been against Stanford, neutral court 73-51 and at home over past UT opponent Richmond Spiders 78-73. Top scorer is 6-5 guard Nate Heise, ave 14.3 per game, 2nd leading rebounder at 5.4, 28 assists in 9 games. 3 other players, 6-6 Anderson, 5-11 Born, and 6-11 Hutson averaging from 11.0-10 points a game. Top rebounder is Anderson at 6.7. Top 3 point scorer is Heise at.400, Campbell, .600.

As a team, shooting from the 3: .356, 8.5 3FG/game. Out-rebounding their opponents by 1.2 a game, while averaging 75.7 per game, giving up 75/game. while holding their opponents to .438 FG pct. .363 from the 3.

They go 10 deep, top reserve is Wolf, 6-4 Guard at 5.2 , 2nd leading scorer is Duax G-F 6-6 ave. 4.8 off the bench. They do have size, Courbat 6-9, Henry 6-9, Hutson at 6-11, a 6-7, and 3 players at 6-6 range.
Born is the key. he was a preseason all MVC guard who had huge numbers last year, but had a terrible start to the year. however, has gone for season high 17 last two games along w his first 4 assist games of the year. small but strong fast guard who can handle and shoots well from all over. if he's got his game back we can't let this be his breakout game. he had 20+ in half his games last year and broke 30 three times. he went for 27 on us, but RayJ outplayed him and Born turned it over 6 times.

they were picked 2nd or 3rd in a loaded MVC preseason. Born was the 4th yr COVID jr PG star who would lead the show. UNI scheduled up and it didn't really work out for them as players like Born lost some confidence. they opened at NIT champ N Texas, played at N Carolina, at S Fla, played Texas Tech, Stanford, Richmond, and in conf already Belmont, and a hot 8-1 Evansville team, this month they go to Toledo and a suddenly pretty good NIU program. UNI could end up being a real solid team by March. I'd expect a tough game tomorrow and UT will need to make shots and continue that 2nd half Oakland defense and rebounding to keep winning. two teams that had a run of tough losses and finally got a good win trying to keep it going.
Bad crowd of course. I really like Simmons’s game. Lorrentson’s maybe not so much.
No score in the last 4 minutes or so of the half. Getting beat 17-10 on the boards.
Northern can seriously rotate and shoot the ball.
Christ, somebody guard #13.

Doesn’t matter what we do, these guys make everything.
I know this has been brought up in past.Moss really can get under opposing players skin. I think it is happening right now
The game tracker said the Rockets had a 14-2 run. That's impressive!
Slow on our rotations. Too many open looks by NI. Born can't miss.

He is, and Born can't miss (only 1 or 2 I think).
They need to makes some of these shots. Some are forced, but geez. Free throws too.
Scary with the missed free throws, lucky to get the win.

Our two big guys need to do something inside. NI has some big guys who can make layups inside, we don't.
We outscored them in paint. Looks like K is gonna use this short lineup to start. They can jump though.
Where is Wight???

I missed today’s game. Was he on the bench? He didn’t play against Oakland either. He has not produced any O.

At least we’re winning some close games.

What’s going on?

Rockets Win! Despite 31 from Born who had 25 before he missed a shot. We put a lot of pressure on him when he re-entered game from a rest at the 10 min mark and slowed him up down the stretch. Another game won by rugged defense in the second half.

Wight is on the bench but at the end of it next to Thomas. He started the first 7 but averaged only 2 pts and 2 reb. Rockets getting more production from Cochran playing a hybrid role of guard on offense and forward on d. Ford is asserting himself as the top guard off the bench.
K really struck out with Wight. Guess he just took him because he’s 6-9 and we needed bigs.
Either roll with the small lineup or be patient enough to bring Brcic along
That was an exciting game with both teams playing excellent on the offensive end. The key to the victory was points off turnovers where Toledo outscored UNI 21-2. It makes a huge difference when you don't turn the ball over as Toledo had only 6 while UNI had 13. While their sharp shooting guard Born was pretty much "lights out" today, Toledo did force him into a couple of turnovers and off balance shots during crunch time. This turned into a "short bench game" during the last 10 minutes as both teams rode their starters to the finish line with Toledo having more energy down the stretch. Big games by Moss, Cochran, and Simmons with Cochran getting a double double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. He sometimes plays out of control but you can never fault his effort on both ends! It sure looks like Toledo found its Starting 5 the last 2 games, but the Rockets are going to need more than 12 points from the bench to be successful long term. Never less, a good week for Toledo with 2 close game victories against good competition!

it's weird. he was a pretty good D1 big at a comparable conference for several years, comes to UT and can't contribute a thing. In the games I saw in person he was clearly not on his game, had butter fingers and got beat in the post and on the boards. The word during off season was that he was a nice fit and would contribute. My hope is that he gets his confidence back and can be a reliable bench guy down the stretch. Either way probably doesn't return in 24-25 when we got a high potential big freshman big coming in, plus muscular 6-5/6-6 wing who can switch defensively and help inside.
