(Reply to below: They worked when I first put them up. Don't know what happened. New link works as of right now. Apologies.)
None of these links link to an article that says that.
The NEC has a 45-scholarship limit, below the usual FCS limit of 63 while the MAC and FBS schools provide 85.

Yes, none of the NEC schools are counters for the FCS exemption buy game, which requires 56.7 FTE scholarships ...

... so if Chicago State continues to pursue starting a football program, it won't be one with a lot of full ride scholarships.
Surprised the NEC would do this but they are feeling a lot less stable with departures in recent years.
Nice win for them. That program needs some good things after so much futility.
A new conference, a win over Northwestern… probably the biggest win in school history. The Northeast Conference had no choice, really. After St Francis-Brooklyn quit sports, two more schools were leaving, they had real danger of disintegration.
A MAC note: Bowling Green whipped Chicago State 70-41 in their opener.
Chicago State was a MAC soccer member for a hot second in 2022, the final year of the conference in the sport. Didn't win a game.

Yes, "we need a school who is already a Division 1 school in [X] sport(s), because we need a school to meet NCAA requirements" is Chicago State's play for the second time, this time for an all-sports add.

The two year grace period for autobids only works for being one team short, not for being two, so the four MAC schools needed one more Division 1 soccer school to have an autobid in the year that they were trying to work out where they would be heading next. Which is why the MAC invited Chicago State soccer.

Now the NEC needs a Div1 school to stabilize things, because the Div2 to Div1 transition takes such a long time.
