Ohio was 9-3 and reaching a bowl. 6-2 in the MAC. Expectation was being a contender for East title which we were. Ohio beat Iowa State non-conference which ended up being an impressive win. With the travel non-conference to San Diego and to FAU and a power 5 at home a 3-1 non-conference exceeded expectations. Winning the division and MAC title was the goal, but Miami was a preseason favorite too and they were also returning a good QB and a good defense. NIU always tough at home and not as bad as their record was so that wasn't a sure thing looking back on it. Offense was poor, but defense was top 5 in the nation. Special teams were poor. met expectations. its was a good year overall. 9 wins and a bowl trip for a MAC team and a shot at back to back ten win seasons for the first time in school history with a bowl win isn't bad. We did have a starting QB coming off an ACL tear in less than a year. He wasn't as good as the prior year but how many players pick up right where they left off. He missed spring and a large part of training camp getting ready for the season.
Toledo won every game it was favored... but hitting expectations is going above and beyond expectations in a way. 6-6 ATS... 6-0 at home... beat your rivals... beat a conference reg season champ... top 25....

Very excited for today's game. Regardless of outcome, we went above
The graphic says we met expectations, but I expected the Golden Flashes to pull off one upset this year and finish 2-10, so whatever the graphic says, for me they fell short.

But a lot of young players got a lot of playing time, especially on the lines, so after another year of growth and another year in the weight room, I have high hopes that the Golden Flashes will hit the 3 win mark next year.
This graphic has Bowling Green exceeding expectations. I'd say we met them. I expected the team to be better than last season, and it was.

A lot of Falcons fans would tell you the team fell short of expectations. While they didn't actually expect Bowling Green to be in Detroit today, they "expected" it, with anything short grounds for angry posts on message boards and social media calling firing the head coach to be fired, etc., etc.

Ohio won the MAC East last year with the MAC player of the year at QB and the MAC Freshman of the year at RB, both returning.

So yes I think a reasonable expectation was to at least take the division again as loaded as what Ohio was going into 2023.

9-3 is not that impressive when you consider it was 6-2 in the MAC with only one win against a MAC bowl eligible team in BGSU.
There's no question that CMU's season was disappointing and fell short of meeting expectations.
NIU did not meet expectations. To win on the road vs ACC in game 1 to then come home and lose to FCS while only scoring 11 points. Then losing to bad teams like Tulsa and BSU at home. Those are three games a Year 5 coach should win at home. This team should be at least 9-3 and not 6-6.

Yea, at least should have been 8-4 playing with a senior QB and an experienced team, unlike prior years.

EDIT: We were Jekyll and Hyde this year in winning and losing but also offense and defense. The defense was easily better than I expected them to be. The offense was easily worse than I expected them to be.
WMU did not exceed expectations, they met them. One wouldn't expect them to go 1-11 with a first year coach after a poor year -- like PJ Fleck did. But I predicted 4-8 due to about as tough a schedule as you can expect (3 OOC P5 games; Ohio, Miami, BGSU from the East) + players leaving due to HC change from an under .500 season prior.

I would say JMU exceeded expectations + Michigan State did not meet expectations.

We clearly exceeded expectations through Week 10. But those last two awful games were head-scratchers, kinda put a damper on the season, imo (but didn’t destroy it).
By projections which said WMU would be one of the worst teams in the country, we exceeded expectations. I employed the "low expectations" model, which means you can't be disappointed, only surprised.

Yeah, we laid a few stinkers late but we weren't the worst team in the country. 04-rock Lol
EMU fell short.

Met expectations for Florida State? Their fans expected to be undefeated in regular season?
Michigan St did not meet expectations. Before the Tucker incident, they were supposed to be their usual 8-4 selves.

WMU met expectations at best. Bad, but not a complete disaster.
Miami: yes, we exceeded.
Akron had a lot of close losses but clearly did not meet expectations in no. of wins.
EMU did not have a MAC level QB this year but we had arguably the top 1/4 percentile RBs and LBs in the conference. The lack of a QB kept us from finishing 8-4 because we had a weak schedule. Even though we did not have a QB, I felt EMU gave games away to CMU and NIU and finishing 6-6 instead of 8-4.

Agree - you smoked the EMU Eagles!
BG exceeded expectations because they beat Ga Tech. Otherwise they won all the games they should have and lost the games I expected them to lose. BG beat the 5 worst MAC teams, a 1AA team and Ga Tech. BG lost to 5 teams with a combined record of 57-7. 13-0, 13-0, 11-2, 11-2, 9-3. A win over a 5-7 Minnesota would add to the exceeded expectations side. A loss is more likely, maybe 60-40 to lose if Minny shows up or we fall into our TO parade.
