If you had/have a rivalry trophy with each team in CUSA what would it be? Or with any of your established rivals?

Obviously Liberty has none, buuuut…..

WKU - “King of the Hill” - trophy that looks like a hill with the WKU and LU mascots on top facing off like they are wrestling to plant their penant on top of the hill. Since WKU are Hilltoppers and Liberty is in Lynchburg, known as “Hill City,” since it’s in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

MTSU - “Sparks & Lightning” - trophy of one of those electric balls under glass that emits lightning when you touch it, since the MTSU mascot is names Lightning and the Liberty mascot is named Sparky.

KSU - “Wings” - trophy of a golden football with giant golden majestic spread wings because both teams mascots are raptors.

Jax St. - “Battle of the Spur & Talon” - trophy with two large golden spur and talins since both Gamecocks and eagles have them.

FIU - “The Torch” - trophy because FIU has a torch on their university crest and Liberty are the Flames.

SHSU - “Sam Houston” - trophy of a boy standing beside a man dressed in era appropriate clothes and weaponry. Everybody knows what Sam Houston represents to Texas, but did you know he was born very near Liberty University and lived in Virginia until has was 15? The trophy would represent him as a boy and man.

UTEP - “Bucket of Rocks” - trophy that is a bucket filled with rocks from Franklin Mts. over UTEP and Candlers Mtn. over Liberty. It’s all painted in the school colors of the two teams. Miners dig up rocks. Liberty places their faith in “The Rock.”

NMSU - “Battle for the Crosses” - trophy shaped as the crest of the city of Las Cruces, NM, three crosses surrounded by a flaming sun. These symbols also carry significance for Liberty University.

La. Tech - “The Dead Duck” - trophy, a bearded man carrying a shotgun with a bunch of dead ducks slung over his shoulder. It represents the connections between La. Tech and Liberty through the Robertson family.

——————————————————————————————

ODU - “Commonwealth Cup” - Yeah, I know that’s what UVa and VT play for but we can play for our own version.

CCU - “The Chadwell” - trophy represents the HC that brought each team great winning success.

This is an incredible post. You put a lot of thought into it. Well done. +3
Commonwealth Chalise, then, if “Cup” is already taken!

Maybe Commonwealth Crown since it’s against the Monarchs.
Honestly, a certain segment of fans have been trying to come up with a name for the JSU-KSU rivalry for a few years now. (Only a few, since the rivalry itself is but a wee lil baby.)

I've been less than impressed with most of the options suggested. We're both birds (Gamecocks and Owls) but two radically different kinds of birds... what works well for one seems forced for the other.

It's a shame, really. JSU's original mascot (back in the 1940s) was the Eagle Owls. There's a missed opportunity there for the Hooter Bowl.

One interesting thing connecting the schools (sort of) is a major rails-to-trails project. The Chief Ladiga Trail starts in Anniston and runs through the JSU campus on to Piedmont and the Georgia state line. At the state line, it becomes the Silver Comet Trail, where it continues all the way down to the Mavell Road Trailhead near Cumberland Mall in Cobb County. With this in mind, a couple of podcasters last year or the year before suggested "The Battle for the Silver Chief".

That's fine, I guess, except for two main issues: 1) The Silver Comet Trail is on the opposite side of the county from KSU, and 2) No one at either university would have a clue what you were talking about if you started talking about the "Silver Chief".

So we're still looking. And I'm fresh out of ideas.

FYI.... JSU-troy state is the "Battle for the Ol' School Bell". We also have a "Battle for the Butter Churn" or something like that with UNA. No need to worry about that one unless/until the Lions move up.
Give it 5 years, Cusa will likely look different. Rivalries can't be forced they must develop naturally. If Chattanooga wasn't so lame we'd have a strong rivalry with them. But they are lame and cowardly and prefer anonymity (Fcs)

Our P5s sure are lousy and apathetic these days. Virginia can belong to the G5 now
I think inventing a name for a game is just lame. It looks forced and suggests you are trying to hype something that isn’t there. Same with putting together a trophy. If something develops organically that’s fine. But don’t try to shove it down people’s throats.

I think we will have a good rivalry with Kennesaw once they get it going in FBS. It is a game you can make in a day trip and our band can go if there is room in their cracker box. We have already had good games with them and we don’t need some phony bologna title trophy to get up for it.

Trophies are fun. I'd like it if we end up with some kind of trophy and a dumb name for the game. I think our athletic department was trying to call it "the battle at the border" last time we played.
We, Utep and Enemas U. already have a rivalry and that's enough. We don't like each other much, we don't hate each other any more since our fortunes lie on one or the other being good or national exposure, conference wise. Unfortunately, each school wants that national exposure, LOL.

We have the shovel because both schools use shovels in their works and the spittoon because well, I guess they used to chew tobacco in the olden days. Nowadays they only chew the fat.

Perhaps it could be the battle for the board. We could play for who gets to keep that goofy plank.
NMSU has played NuM 113 times and the minors 100 times in FB alone. Once you other schools start approaching those numbers, heck, get to 50 matchups, you can come talk about a rivalry. There is a wiki page dedicated to the NuM rivalry (the Rio Grande Rivalry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio_Grande_Rivalry).

BTW, I despise NuM with every fiber of my body. Conversely, while I want to beat the minors every time we play them, I actually have respect for them and want to see them do well.

100 Miles of Hate has been played 73 times, Western leading Middle 37-35-1.

You are correct. You truly have a good rivalry. I should have acknowledged the 100 Miles of Hate. I was referencing the notion of possible new rivalries.

NMSU had "conference rivalries" with Utah State and more recently, GCU. They were fun. People have fond memories of them. But they were nothing close to what we have with NuM and the minors and what WKU/MTSU have.

Interestingly, both the UTEP vs NMSU and WKU vs MTSU rivalries started in 1914. The WKU vs MTSU rivalry missed a few years here and there as schools changed conferences but the biggest gap was no games between 1991 and 2007.

Now that's a winner. Also, we need more pics like that.
While looking for any "obvious" names for the JSU-KSU rivalry, I considered geological features. Neither of us has a river or anything near campus, but we do both have mountains... (foothills for those of you with actual mountains).

Jax State lies in the shadow of Chimney Peak and the Choccolocco Mountains.

Kennesaw State shares a name with Kennesaw Mountain (and Little Kennesaw) just a few short miles south of campus.

"The Battle of Twin Peaks!" I laughed.

Then I threw that idea in the trash along with every other idea.

Looking at the above photo, I really should've given that one stronger consideration. LOL.
You can't force this type of stuff. There is a bigger chance LU won't have a rival at all while in the CUSA.

Yeah, I’m not a fan of trying to force something that isn’t there and nobody cares about. Inventing a trophy or some lame nickname just makes it worse.

It sucks not having a rival. We never really had one in the OVC which is why I was so excited about Kennesaw joining. We’ve already had a couple playoff games and one that went five overtimes. Hopefully they can get it going once they are fully transitioned.

If CUSA has a “rivalry week” y’all will be stuck with FIU. Good luck with that. But I don’t see any candidates for expansion that would really help you in the rivalry department.
