Scott HS, WV. Look familiar?

http://scotthighskyhawks.com/

I guess Skyhawks and Golden Eagles are similar (just like Hawkeyes).
Collegiate logos being used in West Virginia high schools is a very typical thing. Scott has the USM "mean eagle" logo and Herbert Hoover occasionally uses UConn's "happy husky" logo for their stuff.

South Charleston uses Philadelphia's logo for their Black Eagles.
When our trademark application for that logo was successfully blocked by Iowa, for all practical purposes, it fell into the public domain. I’ve seen it used by high schools in Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, and South Carolina before this.

As long as no one tries to legally protect it for licensing purposes, which would put another burr in Iowa’s butt, it’s pretty much clip art.
Arkansas State successfully defended the name Red Wolves against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.

One thing noted in the decision was that there are a smattering of high schools using Red Wolves and the hearing board basically said, high schools generally are so localized in attention and merchandise sales that they aren't relevant to trademark discussions.

Wayne HS used the Wisconsin "W" for years.

Just an FYI, Scott HS is in Boone County and if you are familiar with Jesco White and Hasil Adkins, that's their old stomping grounds.
My local high school in central PA was given a cease and desist order from Missouri for using a similar logo. Seems Mizzou went after several high schools in various parts of the country.
Westside high school over by Jonesboro has used the Wisconsin W.

I've heard if you don't at least "appear" to be going after them for using the trademarked logo that it could hurt you in trying to defend other uses and basically lead to your trademark being useless. By sending the letter they are protecting the trademark even if they have no intent on truly suing them over it.

GS has seen a couple high school logos that are the same as one of our older ones. We sent the letters, but don't believe we went any further than that.

I spoke with an Iowa fan a couple of weeks ago and was talking to him about it. He said, we went after you for that, it looks nothing like our logo...

I bought him a beer and said at least someone from there had sense.

Colleges will often offer a deal in that situation where the high school can “license” the logo for some token amount like $1/year. It protects the trademark rights without making enemies, and come on, it’s free advertising having your logo plastered everywhere in and around a high school.
Maybe we can get some recruits from those schools that like the logo.07-coffee3

There is a Westside HS in Wyoming County, West Virginia that also uses the Wisconsin W.

Ironically, Scott's feeder middle school is Madison Middle. They used the Miami (OH) RedHawks logo for years, but have just recently updated it to be a Red and Black version of USM's current Eagle Logo
You are mistaken ,sir ... That is clearly, unmistakably, undeniably, and irrefutably an Iowa Hawkeye logo. You should let the Iowa fans know

South Forsyth High School in GA still uses a version of the old GS logo...who cares the last thing you want to do is piss off a high school in your recruiting footprint. It is not like it going to hurt the brand and or have any financial impact. I would prefer high schools use it actually.
