Quote:But now the Democrats are taking a step to change the Senate dress code. For senators, mind you, not for anyone else who enters the chamber.

Fox's Chad Pergram posted that now Senators can wear whatever they want, but others must comply with the dress code, which is: "Coats/ties for men. Business attire for women."

This is coming from Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who, as Senate Majority Leader, directed the Senate's Sergeant at Arms to stop enforcing the rules. "Senators are able to choose what they wear on the Senate floor. I will continue to wear a suit," Schumer told Axios.

It's not hard to guess why. Even Axios noted the following in reporting on this change.

The new directive will allow Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), who tends to favor gym shorts and hoodies over the business attire traditionally required in the chamber, to linger on the Senate floor before and after votes.

I reported on the bizarre comment Fetterman made last week about the impeachment inquiry, and he was wearing gym shorts at the time.

So not only does it look like they are changing the rules because Fetterman refuses to comply, but they're making all the staff and any of the regular people still follow the rules, while the elite senators who are supposed to be serving us can do whatever they want.

Can we shout about the hypocrisy here and remind them they're supposed to be serving us? This isn't a lounge but a place where they are supposed to be working for America.

Where are the ones here who criticized me for posting a photo of Fetterman entering the Senate building dressed exactly that way. Don't make me go back and look it up. 03-lmfao

You guys said it's fine to arrive that way, as he would change clothes inside. Uh huh, yeah...
This type of change has been happening all over America. Aren’t there bigger issues?

It took effort to change the rule vs doing nothing and keeping the dress code intact. Why would Schumer waste time focusing on this when there are bigger issues out there?

I expect our elected officials to put in the work. If they want to dress casual then I don’t care. My point though was dress codes have been relaxed in a lot of companies/industries. People are more efficient if they are comfortable and dress codes are being phased out.

At least until that one idiot at the company goes overboard and ruins it for everybody..
Im not sure who is more retarded. Fetterman larping a wijing class vibe but never having worked or the tards in PA that voted for him.

Don’t be intentionally dense. I know it is hard but I believe in you. Work place dress codes have relaxed over the years. In many workplaces causal Friday has become the norm all week. Some have stopped at business casual.

Me personally, I have seen the dress code relaxed at my previous and current job. One was a small company and the other was large. corporation
Going from suits to gym shorts and a hoodie is not "relaxing" the dress code. It is abandoning it.
It doesn’t matter what they do, prog filth will defend it.

The problem with this assessment is believing the actual senators are doing serious work. They don't. The bill writing is all being done by their staffers who - btw - still have to adorn business professional. Hell the senators and HORs members have only one real job - that's to fundraise for their parties.
They also passed a rule that the only mindless dopes allowed in the chamber are senators.

I said I expect them to work. Did not say that the majority of them are. Congress is a cess pool of petulant children. But worrying about what they are wearing is somewhat mimicking that petulance.

Or...to not waste the time of the chamber you simply maintain the status quo and not make a point to change it. Regardless it was a case of special pleading so that the brain damaged Fetterman can walk around like a worthless slob.

“Because we have always done it that way”
(09-17-2023 08:42 PM)miko33 Wrote: [ -> ]Why would Schumer waste time focusing on this when there are bigger issues out there?

Because he cares about winning and counts votes, and one of the votes he counts on most reliably don't want no stinkin' dress code.
The "casual dress" argument holds no water. Yes, dress codes have gotten more lax over the years. Professionals don't always have to wear coat and tie to the office, people feel comfortable not wearing suits to church or a funeral or a wedding.

But sweatshirt and gym shorts and tennis shoes is not business casual, it's white trash casual.
