If Cal and Stanford see more benefit in being independent in football, they then may be amenable to rebuilding the Pac-XX as a non-football league. They could then target several Big West, WCC, MWC, or Big Sky schools to rebuild the league while they seek homes for their football programs.
Sounds like a good idea if you can get Gonzaga, but I think the same problem exits, what happens when you leave your current long time league and CalStan bolts in a few years?
It’s a distinct possibility if they can’t reach a consensus on a rebuild with ORE ST & WASH ST.

Who are the best Olympic sports programs out west? Combine the best Western Olympic programs (Pac-XX, Big West, Big Sky, WCC, and perhaps MWC) to create a Western league that is uber-competitive in Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, and other sports.
I don't think the MWC would be interested since they play football, but others might be.
I could see it look like this:
Gonzaga
Saint Mary's
Cal
Stanford
Oregon State
Washington State
Hawaii
UC-Irvine
UC-San Diego
Potentially there would be others that could join such a league and leave their football programs in an Independent status or in the MWC or Big Sky, depending.
