Kansas has made a $300 million investment in football facilities of stadium and facility upgrades.

Quote:"The project will be completed in a multi-phased approach. The first phase of the project will include additional renovations to and expansion of, Anderson Family Football Complex, the training hub for Kansas Football," KU announced in a press release. "Additionally, the first phase will include the construction of new southwest, west and north sides of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, as well as a new conference center on the north end."

Feels like KU feels safe in either the B12 and is setting themselves up from a facilities/stadium standpoint to not be overlooked if someday the B1G comes calling.

Kansas is an AAU school who ranked around #20 in total athletics revenue.
Cool stadium! Love how they kept it basically open to the hill and campus. Lawrence always been a great road trip; stadium redo should make it even better.

Hey a similar plan worked out great for Cal, right?

Hey, you're on the SEC's radar too.
KU is finally investing in football after 15 long years. They have the right coach, a new AD and chancellor that understands the importance of football for the University. They certainly have sights set on the BIG and ( maybe) SEC down the road.
It's about time. The current stadium is awful, and yes I have been to a game there.

Hmmm. So the Kansas development plan that I've been watching and talking about over 2 years now, continues on...

From the article:

Quote:The university has a fundraising goal of $300 million for the project that uses no tuition dollars or state funds. KU says it has already raised $165 million for the project in gifts and commitments.

Funding for the project will also include $35 million in ARPA funds from the Kansas legislature and $50 million from the 2022 Department of Commerce’s University Challenge Grant program. The university says those funds will go toward aspects of the project designed to boost economic development in Kansas.

I kinda enjoyed the comment "no state funds", followed by "funds from the Kansas legislature"...

Yes, I understand the "difference", but it still struck me funny : )

Now that the 4C schools are going to the Big12, and that OR and WA are heading to the Big10, and because of the new Big12 media deal, I have been less confident lately about whether Kansas is still on a path to the Big10.

But 300M for a new stadium? I don't think they're doing that for the conference they're already in...

My kids had a track meet there about a decade or so ago.
For those who may be unfamiliar with the KU athletics, KU has a new AD (Travis Goff) and this time we will complete the $300MM upgrade.

The previous AD (S. Zenger) was a complete clown and never could raise the dollars needed. He rubbed donors the wrong way and didn't have any experience with a major renovation of this scale like Goff. Goff was a part of Northwestern's upgrades in Chicago prior to becoming an AD at KU. Goff is also a KU grad, which donors really like.

KU will be the highest revenue generating athletic program in the new Big 12 after OU and TX leave.

If KU could be a bowl team in football 2 out of every 3 years, we should remain a top athletic program in the new Big 12-- as we've been competing well financially without football being relevant (think Turner Gill, Beaty, Les Miles and Charlie Weis). The only coach that helped KU in the past couple of decades was Mark Mangino (Orange Bowl BCS win over VT in 08') and Les Miles as he recruited at a high level and left the cupboard somewhat filled for Lance Leipold.

Anyways, ROCK CHALK.
One nice thing is that construction is starting very soon. Sometimes these plans are announced at the very beginning of a long fundraising phase, and completion seems very far off. This will be done for 2025 the season.
