No matter how this round of realignment plays out, the remaining Pac-12 teams will be losing money

Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports reports:

https://www.cbssports.com/college-footba...cial-hits/
I saw a report in 2022 that said the pac currently received 20.8 million. If thats the case, then they could make the same or more money now, as long as they arent stupid.

Sounds like they really want to be stupid in who they invite, and the numbers arent looking good.
They were not going to get the current 20.8 with the 10 pac schools they won't get it with 4+ no matter who the Plus is. Cal likely not real bad off as UCLA will have to give them money for the next few years. Likely 5 to 10 mil per year.
How long before they start dropping sports ?
Welcome to G-5 penury.
Stanford is going independent if they don't find a P landing spot soon. Money is no object to them and when money doesn't matter ego and reputation matter far more.
The statement that caught my attention: “Industry sources repeat that there is not much desire by either conference [B1G or SEC] to add the likes Clemson, Florida State, etc.”

I read this statement and it is hogwash. If there was no GOR, FSU and Clemson would immediately be invited to one or both of the P2 conferences.

Indy is how I think they end up.

If Stanford and/or Cal go independent in football, it will be very interesting to see where they park their olympics.

It was written by Dennis Dodd.

This is probably worse. They have had a high standard of “living” and now they will have to cut back. Where as, a G5 never had that high standard and were a lot close to living within their means.

If I were them, I’d push for the Big East and come along with Gonzaga to make a 14-team league. That at least preserves unambiguous power conference status for basketball for them and it’s a Western pod with Gonzaga that mitigates the travel costs/times just a little bit.

Big 10, Big 12 and SEC are actually getting a lot of backlash for having college conferences being unstable. The model of giving too much money for one conference over the other is over. Peacock is losing money, ESPN + is losing money, etc. People who are cutting the cord are not flocking to streaming either. I do think the best for the whole FBS is to come together and pool their resources together to do a tv media contract together, and pay on the basis of tv ratings per games, a bonus for having more than 1 million in ratings, post season conference championship games, the playoffs and the Bowl Games. Schools like Oklahoma State, FSU, Clemson, etc will get paid more than schools like Vanderbilt, Missouri, Northwestern, Illinois, Rutgers, etc. It should be more on base of performance, and not by what conference you are in.

It is not over...it's simply just beginning.

But it's not and never will be because conferences and networks are free to negotiate with one another free of other conferences.

If you take the Big West and kick out the Cal State System schools, you kind of have the perfect institutional fit though...

Perhaps from Dennis Dodd's "Industry Source"?
Crazy thing is the PAC without USC/UCLA was offered 30M/ a year ago by ESPN reportedly.
