Thanks for sharing, was kind of nostalgic seeing the old logo with the old programs that originally formed this conference.

I find it kind of interesting/ironic that in the first logo, there were 5 teams from the Old Big East, but only 3 were staying with 2 on their way out. If you look at the current logo, there are again only 3 teams from the original formation of the conference 10 years ago. It’s like a decade has passed and the conference is starting at square one again. Not saying this as a slight, here’s to another decade of the AAC punching up and proving people wrong, albeit with a new cast of characters 04-cheers

Should have never sold the Big East name.
Ahem.

Affiliate members like Florida, Florida International, Sacramento State, and Navy don't get top billing.

4 originals remain. SMU, Memphis, Temple, USF.
I have never been much of a fan of the name and logo. It reminds me of 'Conference USA' in that it also too closely describes a conference with a 'national' scope. It also has star, just the CUSA logo.

The America Metropolitan Conference may have been a little more original. If we add anyone from the MWC, we could rebrand as the Atlantic - Pacific 16 or Coast to Coast America. 'The American' sounds generic to me. It doesn't really set us apart.[/font]

Yep, sold the big East name, but claim the big east history and founding date. Can’t make this stuff up.

...not sure if it is true, but it seems that I remember someone (Aresco, perhaps?) noting they chose the name (among other things) to create the AAC acronym, thus being the first conference alphabetically... 03-idea
I think my first comment after seeing the logo was "they need to get rid of the gradient"... Glad they listened to me.
This logo always has and always will be a nightmare to me.

During the reveal they really wanted people to refer to us as "The American" because there was a concern casual fans would be confused between ACC and AAC. That obviously didn't stick. I don't think the intention was to be known as the AAC.

The AAC alphabetical thing, I don't think anyone has confirmed this but that was a popular theory here on the boards. I really think they expected "The American" to stick. #AmericanRising

@Ourland lol I am pretty sure the AMC trademark is taken.

My first thought too. Looked dated from the get-go.
It's nice to see a graphic with all the teams in it.

Excited to start this new conference off right with some great football in under 100 days!

It stuck with me, LOL. I still call the conference "The American." Saying "AAC" sounds too much like "ACC" to me. I think "The American" sounds cooler than saying "The AAC," anyway.

How the hell did I not think about Memphis? D’oh!
The name and logo will always make me think it should be a clothing line at Walmart of Kmart instead of a conference name.

Lol. Great post.
While I'm very glad to be here, I always thought Aresco should have keep the "Big East" name. The brand had value, especially for basketball. But, it doesn't matter now.

Personally, I would have picked the name "BPC".... Big Power Conference. 03-drunk
Urban America, Metro America ?
