They will take FAU, USF, UTSA, or practically anyone else before they ever offer Memphis. No rhyme, no reason but they will always have an explanation. Either support the Tigers or don't. Either way stop denigrating them.
Jeez come down off the ledge already

Yeah but he's right. See UCF and USF.

FAU is in Boca, UTSA is focusing on football and is in the right spot. SMU, SDSU, Gonzaga, UConn...

Memphis will always be on the Island of Misfit Toys. Leadership has always zigged when they should have zagged and / or been a day late and a dollar short.

If Memphis had the chance to put basketball in the he Big East it should have done so. Know what your strengths are and play to that instead of pounding your head into the same brick wall over and over again.

As conference realignment continues if Memphis gets 'in' it will be another Big East situation where the conference disintegrates.
Everyone seems focused on the Big 12. What about the potential of joining the ACC?

Not a chance. If they lose Florida St and Miami they will be replaced with USF and FAU.

My wife has always said that Memphis is the section 8 of conf realignment. We move in and everyone else can’t get out fast enough.

Some of y'all have some self-esteem and insecurity issues. Memphis is a great university and a wonderful city. Stop talking nonsense about it. It ain't true.

What makes the city great is that you have so many people that are joyful, kind, happy and proud of their city, and the school. They are so directly opposite to many of the posters on this board, that can't say anything good about the city, the school, or anything for that matter; and clearly don't like themselves.

I've been to Memphis 3 times, each time being the same as I am here; only surrounding myself with people that are happy, positive, optimistic, who see each day as a blessing, and always seeing the future as being bright. I have met dozens of posters here in Canada or at road games and they are always the same; the exact opposite of many of the sad, miserable posters we have on this board.

I know exactly what kind of city we have. I live here. Do you ? At my age I worry when I go to the grocery store or get gas. And I rarely go out to eat. Driving on 240 or 385 is like being at Talladega or Daytona. Plus the city leadership has never given a damn about the University. Id love to leave but being on a fixed income I’m stuck here until death.

Many times I've been back to Memphis and I've never come across the type of trolls that post here--or, perhaps they fear to identify themselves as such in person. lol.

And it's good to remember that some folks have multiple miserable aliases---strictly for their own amusement.

If errbody ignored those types, they wouldn't do it. lol

Living in a trailer park in Florida is a lot cheaper than you think.

Eagle, sorry to hear about your situation and I think you are confusing two very different ideas. Let me try to clarify. Here are 2 completely different statements:

1) Memphis has too much crime, particularly violent crime, and it needs to be effectively reduced and dealt with by the authorities.

2) Memphis has such a bad reputation for crime that it is preventing P5 athletic conferences from accepting the University of Memphis.

I agree with point 1 but not with point 2. Violent crime is a terrible problem in many cities and it should definitely be reduced! We need more good cops on the streets and anything else that can be done to reduce violent crime, which is a horrible problem in many cities, and is unfair to the residents who live there.

However, Memphis' crime problem has nothing to do with athletic conference realignment. Outside of Memphis, nobody thinks about Memphis's crime rate. Crime is a problem in most cities all over the country, and Memphis is maybe worse than most, but it's not what people across the country think of when they think about Memphis.

And by the way I lived in Memphis for about 17 years in various locations, had an apt in midtown, one in the university area, and then I owned a little house in the colonial acres neighborhood just off Mt Moriah.
