Forgive me if this has already been discussed and is a redundant thread, but when was the last guard we had that you’d take OVER Kendric Davis?

I’m 30 years old so my avid watching did not really begin until the freshman days of Rodney Carney. For me, and I really am not trying to be a prisoner in the moment, I don’t think I’d take a guard OVER KD. My favorite player ever, CDR, is close. Derrick really came on and dominated toward the latter half of the year and into tournament play, and you had guys like Tyreke and Barton who could take over games and get you buckets.

But for AD, pound for pound, as a dude who is the height of Lomax, essentially cannot be stopped. People know he is taking over and they cannot do anything about it. His ability to create his own shot and draw fouls are sensational. The only knock on him this year for me was his inconsistency behind the arc but now he seems to be money. If he was on that ‘08 team, would you want Derrick, CDR, or KD taking the last shot? It’s very close for me. I think I lean KD.

What about you all?
Tyreke Evans
He is undoubtedly one of the best PG’s to cone through Memphis. I think all parties wish he were here longer than 1 year.
For pure, take-the-game-over guard play, Jeremiah Martin was close in his last semester here.
For game management, Eliot Perry would be close.
For leadership, Antonio Anderson is close.
For guts/toughness, Anderson gets the nod. But he was 6-6, not 6-0.
For the post game interview, Chris Crawford.

But yeah, KD is walking with Tiger giants.

Only cause he doesn't get mentioned enough, Antonio Burks as a Senior was awesome. If he had still been here when the Laurinberg guys got here....

Without a doubt. Give him to us for four years and I'd just about bet the farm on consistent NCAA appearances and very deep runs, possibly even a title.
We've had some outstanding guards come through here. I don't think any of them possessed the raw natural talent that he's refined into a wonder to behold. None of them could head/eye/body fake their way to the basket like he can. The way he does that is a thing of beauty, and he does it time after time. His defenders know he's going to do it and they still bite. IMO the closest to him would be Rose but Rose did what he did because of his physicality and his size.

Don't rule it out yet.

I wouldn't rule it out yet either. This team has improved more in the last month and a half than any team I remember. It seems like each player is peaking at the same time the team is really jelling. It's been amazing to watch, and KD seems to be the catalyst for all it.
The combo of Davis and Williams is stellar. Each depends on the other so trust is there. They let the game come to them because they have each other. And it takes special personality traits on both sides to bond like that.
Greatest 1 year players Davis, Rose, Kenon and Evans

What Kenon averaged playing alongside a scorer like Finch and a rebounder like Robinson was insane

I believe it was 22 pts and 16 rebs

Williams should also go down as one of the all time greats. He gets a bad rap with a lot of people imo.

Elliott was a bucket as well. Tony Madlock was the game manager. Jon Wilfong was a nice game manager too.

Jeremiah was the latest who could get in 40 when he wanted, however, he didn't have a DeAndre so he didn't win as much.

Crawford had one of the best all-time post game comments after a close win vs Southern Miss (I think). The Tigers came from behind for the home win, and Crawford said, "I could tell their booty-holes were getting tight."

And they're humble enough to yield to each other when it best serves the team. It's inspiring.
Uh, I would take Penny Hardaway over Kendric, lol.

I was at that game. Awesome road rally.

Without a doubt. But the OP is so very young, he never got to see Penny play college ball, and very little of his NBA career. So, he can't compare KD to Penny.
Kenon was the best 1 year player with 20.1 points and 16.7 rebounds plus a runner-up finish. No doubt.

Davis is right there in the conversation though.
