A lot of little victories. Poor shooting and poor FT, I wonder if maybe just the long season and a lot of minutes just catching up with them? It's been a fun game, they just haven't been able to overcame that bad slump at end of first half.
Michigan coach getting a little too comfortable with RayJ in that postgame chat.

I think I’ll quit hoops if RayJ portals.
Toledo basketball: Worth watching until it really counts

Might be time for TK to be hired away.

He certainly pulled the program out of the coffin if not the grave, and I & every other Rocket fan should be grateful for that. And this time at least we made it back to the MAC championship game. But…if it wasn’t going to happen this season, then I don’t think it ever will under TK. His preferred style of play has a proven record of struggling to produce at the ends of seasons, both in the MAC tournament & NIT. Never enough of a bench, almost always outmatched in the post, and a core group of players who just look gassed in March. Season on replay.

If he stays, we’ll see if he’s learned anything & if he can finally recruit the pieces that have been missing in recent seasons. At the same time I’d be okay if a bottom-tier P5 program wanted to take a chance on him & paid him mucho more $$$: good for him. And a fresh start may be good all the way around.

I saw that too!! Juwan and ray j both with Chicago ties! And Howard loves 5th year college points guards!

TK saw the same thing everyone else in the Toledo section saw and stared at J. Howard as he walked off the court toward the locker room. He did not look like a happy camper!
Like the Kent State game, we could not make any stops, particularly in the second half and it cost us as our offense could not keep pace like they did the first half. It wasn't like we took a lot of bad shots or turned the ball over (only 4 turnovers), but I think we began pressing on the offensive end because we weren't getting stops defensively. Despite an excellent floor game with 8 assists, RayJ seemed like he was out of sync tonight and missed a lot of close in shots that he normally makes. It was obvious the size difference hurt us as we committed multiple bodies in an attempt to slow down Dickenson inside and they made us pay by drilling 13-23 3 point shots that really was the difference in the game. Our 2 seniors Shumate and Milner went out swinging tonight as they both played excellent games scoring 39 points combined despite battling the 7 ft Dickenson the entire game. It is obvious we need to get bigger and more physical on the interior as the last 2 games clearly demonstrated. It will be interesting to see what TK can find in the Portal that will supplement the loss of Shumate and Milner and also provide us some needed size on the interior.

I feel like I'm the only one noticing Michigan was in the same tournament as us.

If RJ was going to portal, it would be to a relevant team as Sears did to Alabama. Why go to a team with high star recruits, half the team are the coach's kids and still can't get it done?

He'll stay at Toledo or find a team that can compete for the NCAAs that needs a PG.
Very proud of the effort tonight and all season. It was a really fun team to watch and I choose to focus on what they did accomplish rather than what they didn't. Thanks to Seth and JT for a memorable 3 seasons!

I think we made plenty of stops. Other than that, I pretty much agree. We couldn't catch up because as you noted, we weren't hitting, If we also weren't getting stops they'd have won by 20.

They had 14 turnovers at least half of which were in the second half. My before game observation that I think B10 guards are indecisive compared to MAC guards I think played out. They were throwing that ball into the stands, projecting their passes... Scores were quick otherwise on both sides, accounting for the high score. A lot of shots were jacked. Toledo played their normal defense of collapsing on the ball, leaving half the court undefended and it was no more successful than it ever is. Great individual defense and cutting off passes is what got the turn-overs but that half court D needs work. Toledo doesn't have the length to pull that off.

Bad shooting nights happen. Unusual for it to be our back court. They weren't particularly harrassed. Too much unnessessarily trying to make their own shot is my take on the problem (which has been growing as we got deeper into the season) with the caveat that one by Milner where he backed down the taller defender was brilliant.

Somehow, I still found it to be a fun game. I wish for RJ's and Maddox' sake they'd have had their normal shooting nights but I don't hold anything against their effort. Maddox was obviously hurt. RJ just had an off night.
Just one game away from feeling like the season was worth my money. All I know is Pain. Hell of an effort from the team. Just no in game adjustments when things don't go our way (which was rare). Once you get team chemistry and after bringing the correct group in... coaching is easy. We seem to get to that level often. No further. I can't spew vomit about coach K. getting fired. I'd be happy if he was hired away. At least his son made the final four in H.S.
Good effort, really good season. RayJ certainly struggled a bit with his shot in the last 2 games. Maddox playing hurt and not himself. If either of those guys are hitting we probably win. Weird how we seem to lose the free throw touch in these big games. Can't blame being tired. We shot poorly in the first half of each of the last two. Having Farmer and Shumate both miss the front ends of one n ones secured the win for Michigan.

One stat: 2nd half threes Kent St 7-10, UM 7-11. Yikes.

I am not offering a hot take on TK. He has us winning and playing quality basketball year after year. I wish we had more defense in these postseason games, but if he was a great offensive and great defensive coach he'd be coaching Indiana or Duke.

Shout out to Milner and Shumate. Great players to cheer for and watch come into their own and have stellar careers. Need 1 or 2 forwards like them out the portal to keep this thing going.
Shumate is not going to produce if he is forced to defend seven footers

Used up Edu fouls

Good effort

That's an interesting choice by the NIT/NCAA.

lol, no I hadn't noticed. Too funny. We're going to counter with Seth Milner.

BTW: had anyone else heard before that story about RJ and the club foot? I don't recall it ever being told on air. And was the announcer mistaken, confusing stories when he said Andre lost a tooth or did that really happen?

Haha — I actually thought it was one of the best officiated games we played this year. Wasn’t a whistle fest. Teams weren’t in the bonus minutes into the half. Wish we could get more of those types of games like last night when it comes to officiating.

There didn't seem to be a lot of defense from either team...that tends to lead to few fouls.
