I wanted Peter Doocy!
Who is KJP?
You are freaking kidding.

Rice tends to get less-than-stellar commencement speakers because the university does not award honorary degrees. But if true this is a real head scratcher.
For a second I thought KPJ.

Who is KJP?
The top two google hits for KJP are Kiel James Patrick and Karine Jean-Pierre. Is it one of those two?
Frustratingly opaque thread title!!!

*shakes fist*
I googled the Rice press release, and it is Karine Jean-Pierre.

Not exactly a household name.
Hahaha my first thought was Kevin Porter, Jr.

04-cheers
She is quite literally a national laughingstock, and I say that as very much a moderate, rather than an extreme partisan on one side or the other. Her press briefings have set a new standard for not answering questions and dodging.
I had to Google to figure out who she was- even when given the full name- much less just as KJP. You guys watch lots of WH press briefings? Am I totally out of the loop?
I have updated the thread title.
Better than David Brooks, am I right?

I feel like we rarely hit this one out of the park. I doubt we'll ever top Vonnegut.
Sal Khan (founder of the online Khan Academy) was the commencement speaker at my graduation. The theme for commencment speakers should be entrepreneurs, founders of social movements, or people that are otherwise leaders in their field. A press secretary, regardless of party (aside from maybe Josh Earnest, who is a Rice alum), doesn't really fit the bill in my book.
I remember everyone being super pissed/disappointed when the speaker was announced for my graduation (Zainab Salbi), but the speech was fine

You get the top commencement speakers by giving them honorary degrees. Since Rice doesn't do honorary degrees, Rice doesn't get the best.
I'm sorry, but after sleeping on it and giving it further thought, this is kind of the final straw with me. I have come to expect more wokeness from the Rice administration than I would like. But when Rice chooses to elevate not only wokeness but incompetent wokeness, they have lost me.

Inviting the current White House Press Secretary to speak at commencement is why you’re going to effectively “cancel” your relationship with Rice?

I get not being thrilled because there are definitely better speakers out there, but she does hold a notable position and is a Haitian immigrant like DesRoche.

At least 100,000,000 better options, Including every illegal in this country. I would rather hear any illegal speak on why he came here than listen to her lies and platitudes.

I at least respected Jen Psaki for doing a difficult job well. Perhaps the most difficult job in Washington.

But in the end, she is just a spin doctor, a professional liar, and one who is effectively an AA hire, and it shows.

You want a drinking game? How about every time she says "President Biden takes ____ very seriously" or President Biden has made it very clear" or "I would refer you to the __________" as she lies and/or evades the truth. TBF, that is a requirement for the job, not truth.

But I would not have invited either one, to be speaker. Neither would have made even the long list. Or any list

I cannot speak for Numbers, but for myself, the way I see it, I am not canceling my relationship with Rice. They are canceling their relationship with me. How can anyone feel proud of an association with a U that invites professional liars to speak at commencement? I feel no connection now with anything Rice except athletics, and that is getting harder and harder to maintain.

Not outraged. Disappointed.
