Oh gosh. Isn't that the same coach from all their other awful seasons. I believe this is his 8th or 9th season of awfulness.

Also, EXCELLENT title.
I don't know how the baseball coach still has a job. This program has been awful under his tenure. Meanwhile Ed Mathey has had a ton of success at his small college. Why exactly did Mathey leave? We were a pretty good program under him.
The contract of Michael Kunigonis expires in June (unless STF has extended it).

(NIU president's office has had a website posting such things up since 2018. A bunch of us have used it for posts for several years. Some have posted the link from time to time. Here it is again.)
Ese juego es una mierda total!

We thought we could do better....

Lack of administrative support, shortcomings in salary for himself and staff, and facility limitations. Much more respected and admired back at North Central.

Well, it also expired at the end of last year and we chose to do a one year extension.
... hence my note if STF extended it. I also don't know when that website is updated.

Until and unless a change is made, we can expect the usual game-to-game coach comments. It also occurs to me that STF likes to let contracts run out or make changes within the last calender contract year since a) the contract has to be paid out anyway, and b) NIU has zero funds for buyouts (examples: Montgomery, Gooden).
16-2 loss at Oral Roberts? Wow this coach sucks, STF's handiwork, gotta love it.

Well, that blows.
Now 0-3 after today's double-header @ Oral Roberts.

So far ...

Friday: 16-2 loss
Saturday (Game 1): 8-2 loss
Saturday (Game 2): 3-2 loss (10 innings)

Overall, NIU scored 6 runs and ORU only scored 27. But the Huskies are wearing them down! And there's a fourth game Sunday!

But it gets better!

After this, NIU goes to Cary, N.C, to play a game vs Monmouth Richmond, then a double-header against Penn State! And a single against Maine.

I have no idea what schedule you are looking at, but, that is not correct.

Next weekend we play as follows:

Friday………Monmouth
Saturday….Penn State (DH)
Sunday…… Maine

Penn State is one DH, not two…….and we don’t play Richmond at all.

You're right. I don't know why Richmond stuck in my head. As to the 2 DHs cited for Penn State, each game of a DH is listed as a single game (but labeled as DH). I need to carefully read how the schedule is written. Personally, IMO it would be easier if DH games were listed as Game 1 and Game 2, or DH-1 and DH-2.

But it doesn't change what's happening with this program.Next weekend will tell a lot more about whether NIU is headed toward another one of those typical seasons.

This is a crime against humanity.
For anyone else who replies to my schedule post above, I fixed it per HuskieDave's corrections. Don't want wrong info repeated per my bad.
Travel budget is significant!
17 road games to open the season. Sounds like a blast.

33 of their 52 games are on the road. Only 19 home games. I assume NIU baseball has to be the biggest revenue drain among all the non-revenue sports with all the travel costs.

Having college baseball start in mid-February is a significant disadvantage to all the northern teams to have to travel out west and south for first 1/3 of their season.
Is the rebuilt baseball field supposed to make it more playable, perhaps allow more home games earlier? Recently, about $200,000 more was approved for ADA compliance and a new drainage system that was in the plans but not found in the ground. Anyway, if just a few more can be played at home, why has there been no announcement of this benefit?

As to baseball's expense, get used to it. Much $$ has/is being spent on NIU's field and no one is going to say "oops."
Oral Roberts is a very strong baseball program. They won the Summit League last year. Third game of the series up 2-0 in the 8th was the chance to grab a victory. At 2-2 in the 9th we had bases loaded with 1 out, but then struck out twice.

Matt Salomonson pitched 6 innings of shutout ball giving up two hits. I look for him to have a solid year. He played in HS with my son, a real solid kid and player.
