Can a mod delete the repeated threads? I must have had a hiccup.
This must be a great thread if you posted it five times!
They've had trouble finding and constantly moving conference affiliations for their current sports. Have they even found much success in any of the sports they do play?

I don't see it working out well for them but hey, if they want to spend money on it then go for it.

Having a football program may make it easier for them to find a conference.
Did you guys hear Chicago State is looking into a football program?
Their TOTAL enrollment is 2,296…….with 1,300+ undergraduates.

Boy, good luck with that.
Do I have to say "Stupid idea" in every thread?

Thank you, NILAW! Much appreciated. I felt like an idiot….which I guess I am.

They should close the school. There is no value there except for politicans to steal and put lackeys on the payroll. The university has never shown added value to the taxpayers based on dollars invested. Too many schools anywayespecially with declining population.
I love this idea. CSU built a beautiful on campus arena (similar to EMU, and arguably better than any MAC program. And now they’re playing independent BBALL). If they’d do that with football, watch them draw interest from football-heavy Chicago. And consider….

IN has 4 FBS programs with 6M population. 1.5 (people per FBS program)
OH has 8 FBS programs with 12M population. 1.5
MI has 5 FBS programs with 10M population. 2
IL has 3 FBS programs with 12M population, mostly in Chicago/Chicago suburbs. 4
WI has 1 FBS program with 6M population. 6
IA has 2 FBS program with 3M population. 1.5

There’s room for an FBS team in Chicago.

I wish WI would figure that out too (Marquette or UW Milwaukee)! CSU has the interest, for sure, and definitive south side and region fan potential. CSU has all the ingredients to become an CFB school - maybe FCS first though. And Chicago definitely has the capacity. North (NU), west (NIU) and definitely south (CSU).

Nice panel. I hope they aggressively do this. Start CSU as FCS and then, maybe, raise to FBS after 5-6 years. Love it. Go for it. Or, heck, go for it with FBS.

Smart.
Will they just schedule pay-day games like they do with the Men's Basketball OOC games? Their schedule will be 12 road games.

It's smaller than my north-suburban high school. Add football? Close the campus, save money, allow the students to transfer to another public university in Illinois. Way too much logic in the closure concept for a Chicago politician to bear, but would be good management...
It takes foresight and trust. NIU, other MAC programs, etc…. Go for it.

Don't worry Dog Fan, the only genuine idiots are those who recommended this move for Chicago State and anyone who believes it is worth doing.
Where would they play assuming it will take some time and a tremendous amount of money for a bare-bones facility. Hiring required staff goes beyond assistant coaches to a functioning training staff, media, marketing, equipment, and ticket support not to mention scholarships. Now figure in costs for a head coach and assistant for the women's sports needed to be added for Title IX compliance. CSU has women's basketball, volleyball, soccer, golf, tennis, cross country plus track and field. So what gets added? lacrosse, field hockey, gymnastics, fencing.....beach volleyball, swimming, water polo, ice hockey, equestrian, wrestling, (considering the neighborhood) rifle?
What a waste of time. I wonder who is getting paid off? The only reason that school is still open is The Chicago Way of who sent you.

Substitute rife for combat handgun.
If they play on Saturdays, I could see them having more attendance then NIU for an entire season, plus Huskie Stadium is in awful shape. Probably got to fix that roof leak at the convo so the basketball players dont wet before you can even order extra hot dogs!
