Quote:Former Trump administration Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) of leaking classified information during an interview with Fox News on Wednesday.
Pompeo said, "During my time as CIA director and secretary of state, I know that he leaked classified information that had been provided to him," adding that the problem was significant enough that he restricted what information he shared with Congress.
"Outnumbered" co-host Emily Compagno asked Pompeo why there hasn’t been any accountability since such leaks would be "a felony at minimum, up to treason."
Pompeo responded, "It’s a complicated process, right? It’s difficult to pin down precisely what happened. But I could tell you that when we provided information to him and to his staff, it ended up in places it shouldn’t have been with alarming regularity. We could see it. In the end, I decided, I held back information from them as a result."
The accusation came following House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) blocking Schiff’s appointment to remain on the House Intelligence Committee, where he had served as chairman for the last four years.
Schiff previously denied leaking classified information but told CNN in 2020, "I can’t speak for what all the members of the committee have done or not done, including a lot of the Republican members."
In January 2021, the Trump administration’s former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell claimed Schiff and his team "regularly" leaked classified information.
On Tuesday, McCarthy kicked Schiff and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) off the House Intelligence Committee. McCarthy and Republicans have Schiff of being a liar, particularly in regard to investigations related to former President Donald Trump.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) had nominated Schiff to the committee over the weekend and called him "eminently qualified."
