Thanks, Whinny. Below is posted the Portal Link for the Broncos.

8 Broncos now in the portal.
Miami leads the MAC with 9 and Kent State is tied with WMU with 8. Interesting to see CMU all conference punter Elzinga in the portal as well as Tyden Ferris from Delton who was a a 2yr starter on the OLine

That’s big given the family CMU connection with Ferris.

this truly is a great site! thanks for posting it.
Carter and Fiske about to get big NIL paydays. Both listed as high 4 star portal players. Probably looking at high 5 digit or possibly 6 digit pay days. Good for them.
By my count, here are the portal defections by MAC team:

Kent State – 9
Miami – 9
WMU – 8
NIU – 7
Buffalo – 5
Akron – 4
CMU – 4
Ball State – 2
Bowling Green – 2
EMU – 2
Toledo – 2
Ohio – 0

Miami pretty high considering no coaching change. The MACC participants seeing the lowest numbers.
We truly are the minor leagues for P5 football teams now. We will never have a great player stay with the team through an entire career ever again. You can challenge this and say, “you don’t know that” but mark my words, never again will you see a Corey Davis, Greg Jennings, Jason Babin, or John Offerdahl type difference maker finish his career at WMU while we are in the MAC.

Not buying this
The new MAC recruiting goal should be “attract as many solid players as you can without getting players that will ultimately be good enough to make the P5 jump”. It just feels like it’s a crappy time to be a G5 coach or fan.
CMU QB Richardson now in portal.

I suppose it could shake out this way, if enough guys looking for a big payday sputter at bigger schools. But I think it comes down to this: would you rather get paid $100,000 in additional to all of the regular athlete benefits to maybe not start at your new school for a year, or stay and play?

The only fix at this point is instituting a salary cap, but how are big cash schools going to agree to limit themselves at this point? Pandora's box is open.
Many, many players are going to be disappointed. Many players are looking to get paid and some will do well and others will get no cash bid. CMU QB who the hell would pay him?A good player yes.,but $$$ no
Richardson basically lost the starting job, I'd guess his leaving has to do with that and not $$
If we're looking for offensive linemen we might start here:

I don’t think it’s all just about NIL, although it is a significant piece. Our guys jump because the upside is just too great.
In many cases it comes down to post college opportunity. If I am a player who has any chance of playing pro, I want to make sure I do everything I can in the short window I have to get drafted. The difference between being a 6 or 7th rounder and a UDFA is quite significant when it comes to job security. The difference between UDFA and camp invite is significant.

On the other hand, what if I am good enough to play and still love it, but came to WMU as they were my only offer out of HS. If you play well through your first year or two it’s basically telling the rest of D1, hey look, I can do this…..then a player may get his chance to play at a school they really wanted to go to in the first place via portal.

I know this won’t go over well here on this forum but the truth hurts. WMU is not a desired destination for most athletes. We get guys because they could not find a better spot or couldn’t play the position they wanted at another spot, bottom line. There are the few exceptions but they are getting fewer and fewer and are insignificant when it comes to the quality of the team.

WMU has shown (along with most MAC schools) with its decline in enrollment over the past decade that we are not a destination university. MSU and UMich are up….GVSU has passed us.

Whoever is running the school is failing miserably. Our sports are underachieving along with the schools overall health. Kids are finding other places to attend school. (And yes, I know we are not the only ones, but we are better than CMU, EMU, Ferris, et Al…… , we have more resources, and far more potential just due to geographic location above all else, so please don’t give me the “we are failing with everyone else” crap)
It's not "kids are finding other places to attend school." There just aren't available kids in begin with. The population of high school children in Michigan has been steadily declining for years, leaving a shrinking pool. And I believe a growing segment (small, but notable) are getting priced out and finding other directions.

MSU has substantially lowered their admission standards recently, likely in part due to needing tuition $ to pay the Nasser lawsuits. UM probably has the swagger to cover any local enrollment shortfalls by recruiting students from far corners of the country/world.

Indeed, GVSU did pass us in enrollment - that stings. But they've also been steadily declining since their 2016 peak.

WMU is a good school in a tough declining Northern market. Much better school than 1/2 the MAC schools. This industry (higher education) is in shambles based on standardsand prices. Develop a trade skill and you can earn a solid living without transversing the college education cost matrix.
21 players from Texas A&M has entered the transfer portal since the end of the season.
