Looks like the first official selection of the 22-23 bowl season has dropped. UAB vs Miami (OH) in the Bahamas. I believe the Bahamas bowl is one of our rotational bowls with other conferences.

SBC has 5 guaranteed tie-ins and a back up deal with the Independence Bowl in 2022.

Cure Bowl vs. MAC
Lending Tree Bowl vs. MAC
Camellia Bowl vs. MAC
New Orleans Bowl vs. CUSA
Myrtle Beach Bowl vs. AAC/MAC

Independence Bowl- Army vs. AAC

*Army is currently 5-6 with 2 wins over FCS opponents. It would need a win over Navy and a waiver to be bowl eligible.
By my count there are currently 80 bowl eligible teams for 43 bowls (86 teams). Now, who knows where those vacancies are going to fall but all eligible will be going bowling unless they choose not to. IMHO, it is complete and utter BS to have JMU ineligible this year. To some degree I get why that rule was in place back in the days of DI-A and DI-AA. Those transition reasons like additional scholarships, etc. really don't apply anymore. If anything, making the jump and having a 1st season like JMU just did would be MORE of a reason to allow them to go bowling. Teams just don't struggle with the transition the way they did back in say '93 when we made the move.
What bowl is App going to?

Oh, the We Don't Care About Attendance Bowl

I'm sure it will be fun for the players
Giving a bowl to a 5-win team over JMU is stupid. That's exactly the kind of extenuating circumstances that should allow the Dukes a waiver.

I believe JMU has priority over all the 5-7 teams.
So, JMU has a better chance of landing a bowl?

Not as far as I’m aware. Not sure if the team is assuming they have any chance at any postseason.

No. That is only for second year transition teams. JMU is in their first year.

I agree 100%.

JMU has to start lobbing ESPN for an NCAA waiver for this year and quickly.

That remains the most CUSA 3.x bowl ever.

Bowl eligible transition teams in their SECOND year of transition, then highest APR of 5-7 teams.

Thanks for correcting. Geez what a completely stupid policy.

Technically, the rule doesn't say "second year". It says "final year".

If JMU were to immediately submit a waiver to shorten our reclassification to one year, then 2022 would become our final year of reclassification. Our AD has always been clear in public statements that we intend to request a waiver to shorten our transition. Now seems like a good time.

My impression was always that he was considering the waiver for the second year and that there was little to no chance of a waiver for this year. Sure as hell hope I'm wrong about that. The JMU team has earned the right to go bowling!
Cure bowl - Coastal

Lending Tree - Troy

Camellia - GA Southern

NOLA - USA
