That is typically true of most MAC teams. It's a defense-oriented conference, but Kent State often does it best, or one of the best.
I just want back and watched this entire game since I didn't get to see it live. Kent State was amazing on defense but Carry was just way off in this game probably a lot had to do with the Houston defense but man so many chances blown in this game but at the very end with Kent State down 1 with 35 seconds left Carry absolutely got fouled he got smacked in the head on a drive and if he hits the 2 FT's Kent State has the lead and would been 1 stop away from a monster upset. I can't believe the refs missed that call it was criminal.

Absolutely correct. Carry got hammered and ref swallowed his whistle. End of game! Terrible non call.

I'm not sure they "missed it". "Decided not to call it" feels more accurate. It was impossible to miss.
As a non-Kent/pro-MAC fan who watched the 2nd half of that game I also remember the ending. It was definitely a foul and the Houston announcers clearly admitted they caught a break. At the same time, there was no contact up top on the block attempt. The contact was a little after the shot on the follow through which would have meant a late call. Something refs tend not to do. Of course, if the Houston defender doesn't wind up and swipe down on the block attempt-which caused the contact-Carry has a better chance to make the shot, although he was really playing for the foul more than trying to make the bucket. If he is a bit more under control on the shot attempt, then he probably gets the call. Santiago also missed a wide open corner three to tie with about 7 seconds to go.
