Its with a heavy heart that we found out at the beginning of the women's game that our own Dave Clawson aka Timer has passed away. There was a moment of silence ahead of the game.

Dave was a great guy and saw a lot of changes through the years at Drexel. I do not know when he started, but its been quite some time (before the naming of the DAC). He was always friendly to everyone as was his wife. I am glad I was able to say hello to he and his wife last March at the CAA tournament when I made it back.
RIP that is so sad to hear!
This is sad news. I did notice that he had been absent from social media the past several months and suspected something might be up.

I want to pass along my history of knowing Timer. Dave and I met, not initially in person, but on social media about 30 years ago. We were both early adopters of social media and we met on message boards discussing the North Atlantic Conference on the online service "Prodigy". This was probably during my pre-junior year during the 1993-1994 season. We then both moved to different platforms over the years discussing NAC/America East/CAA and Drexel basketball, eventually moving over to the CAA Zone (which he moderated for many years) and then to this smaller group on CSN. What an extremely nice gentleman who befriended so many of us who joined him on social media and always made time to chat with us at the games, where he was a fixture behind the scorers table at the DAC, since the 70's. I also sat behind Dave with his wife on numerous occasions over the years, and always made me and my family feel welcome at games over the years.

Dave is a member of the Drexel Athletics Hall of Fame.
jb i think you were on the metsox text message so you saw my comment about wishing i had reached out to him sooner about our podcast. it was a missed opportunity to get him on the record and preserve him for years down the road. he had a background in medical school admissions as well. it's always just as interesting to find out what people do outside of the topic at hand...basketball in that case.

i had never really talked to him until the women's tournament last year. he was there for the whole thing i believe on the first row. powerful to be talking with somebody who has stage 4 prostate cancer. he was still out there supporting our team even with covid risks while involved in a treatment study. he thought enough to give the extra caa shirts to my kids.
Hi, guys. Apologies to Drachenfire. I don't believe I've posted in this particular venue.

In another life, I'm known as Mrs. Timer. Never my board name.

It means a lot to hear about Dave's impact on others.

Believe me, Dave continued to follow Drexel basketball however he could. He planned to brave the Covid threat in 20-21 (when games weren't cancelled) until his diagnosis of an aggressive form of prostate cancer. Get PSA tests! Most of the time they are life saving.

He had a great time at the CAA Women's tournament. Seriously annoyed that he had to miss Drexel's first game due to a biopsy.

Dave hung on until after his long delayed 50th high school reunion, where he had a blast. He was on the committee. He went downhill quickly after that. He passed away early on the 20th, at home and peacefully.

If anyone wants to share stories, or ask questions, I will be here.

Nate, Dave had a hip replacement in late August. His oncologist was practically hopping up and down. He was so happy to have amgen treated bone to examine.
nice to hear from you mrs. timer. if you're ever wanting to sit down and talk about you, him, or anything else...let us know. doesn't have to be in podcast form but i've thought of it as a way to share people with the world. you and your husband deserve that as much as anybody.

it's funny you brought up the 50th class reunion. i have my 20th tonight and i was saying all day i couldn't figure out why i was going. social situations are not my thing. you made me remember why...that while i'm here and have the ability to do things...i might as well get out in the world and be as big a part of it as i can. maybe i'll even have a conversation that makes a difference in somebody's life and mine. the conversation i had with your husband will always be special to me and it happened because he was willing to keep plugging along despite all his challenges.

thanks for sharing him with us and let us know if you ever need anything.
It sounds like on our slack channel we as a collective group will be making a donation to both men's and women's programs earmarked in honor of Dave. Anyone not on the slack channel message me or hiroshima about details.

It is I who should apologize for not having the decency to introduce myself during one of our many rides up in the parking garage elevator after a game. My deepest sympathies for your loss.
