Matt Brown says EA is making an announcement this morning regarding the delay of the game. Very disappointing for video game fans around the country.

On another note, while Matt has some of the best information out on the internet, anytime he shares about this video game, he goes viral. Go figure!

I still play the PS2 games since they have the FCS teams. I won't buy any of the new games unless it includes FCS. We need NCAA Basketball again.

Agreed on NCAA basketball. BTW, as far as FCS goes, Doug Fluties' Maximum Football is customizable so you could put FCS teams on it. I will admit it can be a pain in the butt to do, but at least you have the option.

Edit: Idea- rather than allow themselves to be bypassed as an NCAA football video game by EA, Maximum Football could devote themselves to making FCS games in the future, creating a niche market. I will have to email them that idea!!!

EA ought to just sell DLC that goes all the way down to D3. Even let you promote yourself between divisions so you can take Mount Union from D-3 all the way to the B1G.

The challenge (at least from what I see from a financial and legal standpoint) is that NIL compensation becomes very unwieldy by including FCS teams, much less lower divisions. So, I'm not surprised that the initial focus is on FBS schools since it's already going to be quite a bear to figure out the NIL payments for 130 or so teams at that level. Remember that the whole reason why EA Sports stopped selling NCAA Football in the first place was that they could no longer just have generic no-name players in school uniforms without risking further lawsuits (and that's even more the case today with all of the NIL legislation today).

The licensing headaches for this game must be Godzilla-roundhouse-kick-to-the-skull level.

I can see FCS dlc down the line. Maybe send lawyers to offer $500-1000 per FCS student on the team as a sort of collective bargaining agreement. You still can release the FCS all tar directional school. (FCS West, east whatever) you can also have stadium packs for stadiums and even generic FCS stadium for the all star teams.
I love the Kennesaw State shoutout near the end of the article.

Great stuff as always, Matt!
What's wrong with Maximum Football??

It sounds like they are basically doing an opt-in system, where players sign up to be in the game and get paid. I'd presume that players who don't sign up simply won't be represented in the game with empty roster slots filled by randomly created players.

So for including the lower divisions, it's a matter of licensing the schools and the cost of designing their stadiums for the game. It seems relatively straightforward that those schools get paid when someone buys the DLC only. I'd imagine FCS would sell well enough; D2 and D3 probably wouldn't justify the cost of going to the stadiums to do the photographs and scans to put them in the game.

I agree. Assuming we get all FCS, we don't really need D2 or D3 schools. At most the generic D2 all star teams FCS have can be copied at lower stats. You have the option in a dynasty mode to pick any school in FCS or FBS school to move up. Simply have created Schools either be in the first year of transition from D2 or out of transition as a independent FCS school.

Other than Dynasty mode I don't know how many people would play FCS let alone any D2 schools. If anything maybe pay the schools for the rights to their names for D2 or 3 transfers.

Well back when they did have 1-AA/FCS teams, EA just stopped updating the rosters so I don’t see why they wouldn’t just get the licensing for the FCS schools and give them generic rosters. Nobody would complain, very loudly at least.

I thought they stopped selling it because of potential lawsuits, and they didn’t start it back up because they’d didn’t want to create generic rosters.

That's my understanding. The fact that they're going through all the hassle to make the new game says a lot about just how popular College Football still is.
Just think now, the first release of College Football will be in 2024, the first year of the new playoff system.
Again, I ask, what is wrong with this game below

Bringing back this thread from the dead, I recently contacted Maximum Football's producers and encouraged them to add FCS teams as well as the FCS playoffs. They wrote back and told me that they liked the idea!!

I figured since EA is eventually going to bring back college football anyway, might as well ask Maximum Football to take a look at FCS.
If real FCS teams with generic rosters is too risky, use generic FCS teams as well. Better yet, use D1 teams with no football. You get the FGCU license but have to compensate 0 players for NIL.

I don't think it's too risky, especially if they don't use the exact tea name. Maximum Football has fun with the generic college football team names!!!
