Chandler Martin, Bucs best RS ILB entered the portal. I'm afraid this is just the start of more bad news for the Bucs.[/b]
Add Tyler Keltner and Trevon Mathews.

When do we put a stop to this?

Right now, there is no way to put an end to it since the players can transfer at will. I agree with another poster who estimated that we might lose half the team or so in the transfer portal after this season.

We can't fire Quarles and pay him nearly $1 million for the rest of his contract. Maybe after a couple more seasons we will be able to fire him and get things turned around.

Right now I think our questions are just letting off steam because we are disgusted, betrayed and fearful for what is about to happen. The fan base is angry and frustrated because they cannot do anything but watch how worse we get next year. It would be great if schools could put coaches in the transfer portal.

I agree- as a fan it is obviously frustrating to watch these things happen without there being any type of solution available. It really speaks to the importance of making quality hires and having a good athletic director.

Sound crazy — why not? The Transfer Portal will have to be part of all future coaches’ contracts. Once a certain number of transfers is reached in a given sport under that coach — his/her contract becomes null and void and he goes also at the discretion of the school with NO BUYOUT obligations. As for this situation — can a high school-college assistant coach have sufficient clout and connections to work the portal and replenish the roster that he is responsible for depleting in the first place?

ETSU football players enter transfer portal

The expected defections have begun for the East Tennessee State football team following a difficult season. READ MORE

Quarles — the most unpopular man on campus — and growing with each defection. Likely, some of these defections will take other students with them.
This Transfer Portal erases any lingering resemblance to that worn out student-athlete concept and the BS that flows from it. How can I just up and transfer and stay on track towards my degree while finding another football playing institution needing a player of my position that will sign me, has my major with the same course requirements, and have me graduate on time — or at least by the time my eligibility runs out?

Things are getting much worse...

Bucky entered the transfer portal last Monday. He has his first offer and it is from East Carolina.

Too good!
A. HUZZIE is in the transfer portal. One of the best CBs in FCS.

Maybe Quarles can bring in some DIII players, give them scholarships, and perhaps they won’t transfer.
Perhaps these players just want to move up to a higher level but I think many may just be getting away from Quarles. His job now is to exploit the portal to our advantage, getting group of five and power five transfers that want to start or transfers from other fcs or D2 teams. That is the way to be competitive in this era and we shall see how Coach handles it. I am not getting my hopes up though.
VMI leads SoCon with 13
ETSU at 9
Wagner leads FCS at 31
Quinn Smith, another young DB starter just hit the portal. Definitely more to come.
Riddell to the portal. What a complete crap show. Nice job Scott Carter.

He’s stocking groceries at Kroger fwiw. Not surprising he’s out of town. I’m very concerned that Scott Carter and Quarles have destroyed this program beyond fixing. We proved a lot of naysayers wrong by having success on the field and with the fan/community support after bringing it back but we are trending towards a path of program destruction. I’m happy we all got to experience 2021 because I fully expect it may prove to be the high water mark for ETSU football.
