Not a great night for the WAC.

Grand Canyon lost to Wichita 55-43
Abilene Christian lost to Wright State 77-61
Arlington lost to Drexel 59-38
Tarleton lost to Drake 71-64

RGV picked up a needed win over Western Illinois 78-77

Maybe Cal Bap can get us another win tonight against the Gophers.
Cal Bap fell behind 15-0 to Minnesota before they started to crawl back. It was 26-18 at the half. But with about 10 minutes left in the second half, the CBU deficit was back to 13. Then they went on a run to be down by 1 with 6 minutes left. Armstrong hit a 3 and tied with a minute left. Ended up going to OT. CBU never lead in regulation.

Minnesota hit the go ahead shot with 6 seconds left in OT and won 62-61. Disappointing end to a great game. I though CBU had it as they definitely had the edge much of the second half and in OT.

After their win over UW in Seattle, I was hoping for another P5 win in a row…
WAC vs P6 conferences, if I counted right:

4 wins
- 2 wins in double digits
- 2 wins in single digits
8 losses
- 3 losses in single digits, 1 in OT
- 5 losses in double digits, but only two true blowouts.

Not bad. If what the NMSU guys have been saying is correct, we should have trouble scheduling P6's next year.
I guarantee you Oklahoma and other Big 12 schools will avoided SHSU like the plague for the next couple of years.
Bearkats with a commanding 19-point lead against Northern Illinois at half for the first game of the FT Meyers tip off. 41-22 at half. Bearkats have looked good from 3, currently shooting 58% 7-12.
Sam Houston wins 88-54 in an absolute ass whopping of MAC opponent Northern Illinois.

That’s straight baloney. Last year, Memphis and Auburn scheduled Murray State and they’re on Saint Louis’ schedule this year. Murray State has been a solid program for what, 15 years? A loss to SHSU won’t keep Utah and Oklahoma out of the NCAAs. It will be too many other losses.

It’s good to win, and better to win big. But NIU is terrible. 1-4, 312 KenPom rating. Their only win is a D2 school, and they also lost at home to a D2 school as well…

I agree they are terrible, and they were 12 point under dogs for today's game. Hoping Sam Houston can win tomorrow against South Dakota and maintain their undefeated record going into their game against Nevada next week.

UT-Austin avoided us for a few years after we beat them.
UTA finally contributed with a DI win against Northern Kentucky today, 60-56. East Carolina up tomorrow.

The way SH has been playing, I predict they will cruise thru that game.

Teams can look at Murray and know they will probably be a Quad 2 game, and be reasonably certain of what they will be getting. They were actually a Quad 1 game last season, but only 1-30 NET are Quad 1 when you are playing them at home, so that’s a little harder to bank on. But a solid Quad 2 most of the time.

Sam Houston finished last season at 153 NET. For a home game, opponents below 161-363 are all Quad 4. Nobody wants a Quad 4 loss, so they usually don’t want to schedule someone that may end up Quad 4 if they are on the high end of it. A loss would count the same as losing to Lamar or Chicago State and is a real stain on a tourney resume.

Scheduling is always tricky and the NET and the Quadrants makes it infinitely more so. Teams like opponents whose NET ranking are easier to predict.
After ACU falls to Wright State last night and I hope we can rebound against Weber State tonight. Weber is certainly more winnable if we can get back to our style of play. Our new group is really struggling to play like coach Tanner wants and I am not seeing the leadership step up as in years past. We are playing ok but turning the ball over too much, as well as missing both FG and FT shots. We have to get more physical and aggressive once more.
The NMSU vs UNM mens basketball games for this athletic year have been cancelled per UNM. NMSU press conference is scheduled for tomorrow.

Definitely a wise choice. Today’s Albuquerque Journal article has the most comprehensive story about it I think.

ACU tried to play aggressively but struggled with their defense and passing. They committed way too many turnovers again and couldn't hit their FTs, whereas WSU was 23-25. ACU loses their 2nd Vegas tourney game 77-67.
I saw RGV picked up another win, this time versus NAU. They are on a roll.

The Vaqs were down at the half by 6, 41-35, but came back with a huge 56 point second half and won the half by 18.

RGV shot 50%!from the field and an amazing 31/35 from the line. That has to be near a program record.
ACU still struggling to get in a groove. Turnovers and missed free throws are killing us. At the Vegas tournament we have lost two games and this last one hurt. We were more athletic but just did not execute. One game to go, and it is against maybe the best team in the tourney.
