Graham, Adekunle and McCardell all made first team all-conference. Bichelmeyer and Courtley made second team. Personally, I think Maruska got robbed given her all-around play on both offense and defense.

First round match against FIU tomorrow at 5:00pm
In the opening match, WKU swept MTSU, 25-21, 25-12, 25-21.

A little closer than one would have expected.
Rice sweeps FIU,
Awaits the UTEP/Charlotte winner (Miners leading that one 2-0 currently)
Rice sweeps 3-0, but played it's worst match in over 3 weeks. Genny is not going to be happy. FIU stinks, yet they outplayed defensively (I believe they had 15 more digs than us), badly outserved us and controlled the play offensively for the majority of the match. We won primarily the result of FIU having far more attack errors. Maruska carried us on her back offensively (17 kills), virtually taking over the 3rd set in much the same way Matthews did to us last week in that 5th set. Adekunle also had a solid offensive match while shining in the block with 8 blocks. Bichelmeyer was so bad she was benched in the 3rd set, and Courtley wasn't much better.

We squeaked by the first set 26-24 (after leading the set 8-2 early), we were tied 22-22 in the second set before finally closing it out, and FIU came as close as 16-19 is the third set. Through the match we allowed FIU to go on multiple run of 5 or more points.

UTEP is blowing out Charlotte, as expected, currently holding them you .071 hitting half way through the 3rd set. We play like we did tonight and UTEP will beat us tomorrow....and WKU would blow us out. Time to get a good night sleep, and play with greater focus and aggressiveness tomorrow. We can ill-afford to lose before the championship match.
UTEP swept Charlotte: -20, -14, -22.

Wow, they were up 11-2 in the 3rd when I checked out.
lol No post-match comments from Genny. I think one can surmise that she was not pleased with the effort tonight (save for Adekunle and Maruska).

We face UTEP at 2:30pm tomorrow afternoon.
Still, it’s always good to win with a sweep at Diddle!

Let’s do it again today!!!

I think they put so much energy to beat Western Kentucky so you can expect a down game. We will see how mature this team is and can bounce back to be more focused.
WKU up 2-0 on UNT and looks set to advance pretty easily. Watching from mid-court, it’s not hard to see why Matthews was the conference player of the year. The speed and angle on her attacks are just qualitatively different than anyone else on the court.
Rice down early in 1st set to UTEP, 3-7.
6-0 run in the first set to put Rice up 12-10. UTEP timeout.
6-0 run by Rice and Rice leads 12-10.
Our defense is helping a lot today. 20-15
25-18, 1st set. Adekunle with 5 kills.
14-4 Rice in the second set. Everything working this set.
