Rashon Burno……. the new (but not improved) Ricardo Patton.
Congrats to the Prairie Stars (which I thought was a woman’s baseball team from the 1940s until tonight). They were the better team, the team that wanted it the most, and the better coached group. Being honest. And THAT is sad for NIU

Holy sheet, boys. I have never had any NIU basketball expectations, but you can’t lose to D2 or D3 teams. I guarantee you it’s not a talent or even coaching issue though. They probably just overlooked them and got snakebitten by a team playing their Super Bowl.

Didn’t learn their lesson from almost losing to McKendree??
NIU football and Certainly NIU basketball needs to start paying players to come here since it can be made legally. Huskies invest needs to go to athletes and not athletics. I don’t like that two crappy games against D11 schools coach Burno is talking about his team being tough. He said they have two starters out due to Covid and they will be much better Friday night.

There's truly no excuse for this...
I wasn't able to watch the game tonight as I had a prior committment but...boy oh boy...was I disappointed to see the score.

Then I looked at the box score.

This team can't survive on Williams and Coit alone. Apparently the team had a lot of injuries and sickness this week and at times only had 7 or 8 guys at practice. That's rough.

I think Nutter makes a big difference in this game and not having Amos sure makes the inside super thin.

I'm not sure what's up with Niederhäuser. I see him in the social media posts but he has yet to play. I'm guessing he's got an injury.

Nevertheless, this team with a healthy Nutter, Amos and Niederhäuser is a much different squad.

I always knew it'd take a while for this group to gel but I didn't expect them to lose to UIS. And playing short-handed, down a starter and two big men, they're just too thin in too many places.

With that said, they should have won this game. I'm starting to be done with Thornton as a starter. But I'm not 100% sure Russell is a starter, but he does have confidence so maybe that helps.
The lack of fundamentals especially with respect to rebounding is maddening.

And Burno didn't seem to have a problem with the loss during the post-game.

So happy I drove to the Convo for this tonight.
Too bad it was just an exhibition game for UIS.

Out of curiosity, what specifically did Burno say or do that made it seem like he didn't have a problem with the loss?

It is showing as a regular season game in the standings?
There is always an excuse. Sickness, injuries, hangnails…..whatever. None of this covers up the issue of lack of talent to play basketball at this level. This team should be DIII at best. I’m not even sure sure this team could beat a high school team. Get ready for massive blowouts.

For NIU, yes. For UIS, it was an exhibition.

He said that the loss wasn't a concern to him because the team was down two starters.

Is this a question.
The women's team was on ESPN. They were on the wrong side of a Top 10 play of the day.

Coitus did put up 31, which is not too bad.

When did he say this?
This article says we were "Missing four players due to various injuries and illnesses"

Looks like we were down 15 to a DII program at one point late in the 2nd half? Yikes.

I hope Burno has a long list of excuses for the rest of the season. He’ll need them.
