I'm betting what I won on the Phils after they dusted my Cards and Bravos ... the Phils just have that mojo going with a feel of destiny working ... Wheeler and Nola are on a roll...

It should be a helluva Series. I'll go with Phillies in 7.
Is it Phillies/Astros?

Yes, it is.

Takes me back to the 1980 NLCS.

LCS was a best-of-five in those days, and Phillies needed all 5 to clinch it. Then they took out the Royals in 6 for the title. That was the year George Brett hit .390 for the season, and was sensational in the Series. But the Phillies were just better overall.

I honestly think the Astros are the better team. But I thought that last year against the Braves, too.
In my book the Astros are an NL team.
Philly 04-cheers

Same here...
Not a fan of either team, but hope the Phillies win.
How can anyone pull for a Philly team?

They had great starting pitching, and starting pitching is what wins in the regular season. But they did not have great bullpens, and relief pitching is what wins in short post-season series.

Remember, they move Smoltz to the bullpen 2001-04 because they needed help there (and he was coming off an injury in 2001).

while I understand your point, one still has to score runs ... StL's BP was pretty good this year with three starters going 6+ most outings ... then our bats went ice cold against the Phils (yeah, mainly due to Wheeler and Nola) ... when ya can't score, ya can't win...
More importantly, who hacked stink's account?!?

Not a fan of the lay off div winners have to endure while the wildcard games are played. Almost makes winning the division a disadvantage.

Eh. Most teams like the fewer games, no chance of losing the wild card round, and getting your starting pitcher staff aligned. Just because 2 of the 4 with byes lost doesn't necessarily equate to a disadvantage.

I like the setup as it exists now ... I despised the 1 game play-in format...

while I understand your point, the 'stros made it from the bye position ... like muh cards, the dodgers and bravos simply let go of the rope at the plate ... good pitching will do that...
What I'd do. 3 division winners, 3 wild cards.

Wild card #3 plays one game at wild card #2, winner plays one game at wild card #1, winner advances to next round along with 3 division winners.

What I'd do to minimize the impact of layoff on the 3 division winners, plus the effect of getting hot in a short series, is to have the 4 teams play a 15-game short season (roughly same length as current division and league championship series, so could be played in same time frame with fewer days off). Each team plays 5 games against the other, WC plays 2 home/3 road versus everybody, #3 division winner plays 3 home/2 road versus WC and 2 home/3 road versus everybody else, #2 division winner plays 2 road/3 home versus #1 division winner and 3 home/2 road versus everybody else, #1 division winner plays 3 home/2 road versus everybody. So #1 division winner gets 9 home/6 road, #2 gets 8 home/7 road, #3 gets 7 home/8 road, and WC gets 6 home/9 road. Team that wins most games in short season is league champion.
