Year- Opponent Crowd
2012- CMU 19,247
2013- WMU 17,627
2014- UMass 20,104
2015 #24- Kent 23,118
2016- BG 30,147
2017- EMU 22,681
2018- BG 24,685
2019- WMU 22,141
2021- NIU 21,284

-Last season was our first HC loss in over a decade.
-WMU in 2013 was our only rainy game in recent memory.
-20,000+ fans counts as a normal/good crowd for this game.
- Even a ranked Toledo didnt sell out.
- The difference between a normal HC and BG is about 5k fans (half visitors). The difference between a regular MACtion midweek game and BG midweek is about the same. It makes little difference when we play them for overall fan participation. Id rather have the better MACtion crowd for national TV.
BG should be UT homecoming game every home game year
2016… we were rolling big…. Kareem had a big game IIRC

Id personally rather have the 19k opposed to 14k on a weeknight for the country to see. Especially if we still draw fine for whoever we have on homecoming.

UT wants a good gate for the home opener, Homecoming and BG. Why compound it and essentially add a poor attended game because of it. MSU wouldnt do that for Michigan... they want a cold November game to be their rival and not Rutgers 10 out of 10.
22,273 fans
11 of last 13 wins over CMU
10 of last 11 HC wins
Weather has been fenominal so far this season
Our uniform game is on fire
weekday games suck, unless its on a Friday for out of towners

BG homecoming eliminates a large gate game from the schedule. Lost dollars.

All depends on when it is held at other point on schedule, but if held during homecoming and that draws lets say 5,000 more fans than another homecoming opponent, that increase could off set attendance loss for another home game without BG. Also home games in last half of MAC schedule are often more impacted by weather, teams record, and games mid week (this year UT is stuck with two mid week Nov home games).

Having the Battle for 75 game in a November mid week game is just stupid.

Also, the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving is not the greatest.

150k to 800k national viewers for midweek MACtion... 2-9 BG or 9-2 BG it will draw because its a rivalry. CMU or any other MAC team could also suck and that REALLY hampers our attendance. Like 7k fans ON NATIONAL TV.

Might as well say 0-2 million.

Is that what the range HAS been? Is that why you quoted it? What games got the upper end and was that in the current era of B10 and NFL having games also during the week?

C-USA scored with the NFL network contract and they have a renewal coming up that should increase their pay-outs significantly. I don't know if MAC would have gotten any on the NFL if the Sunbelt wasn't on the other sideline. We've had this discussion before, it's going to be a time will tell to settle the agree to disagree. I still don't think MAC can compete with the population centers of the C-USA, regardless someone thinks we're the better conference. Theirs are growing. Ours are decreasing even as national population increases.

NE US would seem the only place to pick up viewship for a northern conference. Maybe a bit more recruiting up there is in order. FCS games up there do not seem to be helping in that regard.

I havent paid a ton of attention to the nielsons, but I know the 3rd MAC game (rarely us), not on the day after thanksgiving, gets about 90-125k viewers. Toledo lately has been getting about 200 to 400k as the 1 or 2 MAC game on said day. In 2015 when we played at BG with a NY6 game on the line, we had 850k on ESPN2. NIU in the 2011-2014 years hit a million a couple times. Same with that WMU team in 2016. Our Friday night game with pseudo gameday in KZOO had close to 1 million.

Every degenerate gambles on MACtion...

NFL games on cable draw over 5 million. Now on Amazon Prime? No clue. But we dont play on Thursdays. And the SBC doesnt play midweek in November... if they do its Friday night.

If we want to showcase MACtion, we want good Toledo, good WMU, good BG, and good Ohio at home. We draw the most, and the stadiums show well on TV. I know we recruit to those games and its why we get potential transfers and 3*s on campus.

CUSAs TV deal is dog doo compared to ours. And because we are a commuter school, with most alums close by... we draw far better than our MAC foes. Embrace it. I love BG on national TV to witness that a$$ whoopin.

Scott Van Pelt talks about us 3 times a season. All midweek days.

Except when Van Pelt lost his big bet when UT covered the points playing U Mass at Gillette.
