Wouldn't it be nice if, at an NFL game, a player scores a touchdown, does some buffoonish dance (as typically happens) and every single fan boos, stands and walks out. That would stop the crap quickly.

Sadly, too many fans — again, both on the left and right — look at these players as "heroes." Seriously, a grown man fan wearing a pro jersey with a player's name on the back???? That's pitiful. I see it for Nashville Preds games all the time. If you're with your kid, that's fine. But your adult buddies or spouse ... shameful.

The fans, in many respects, have allowed some of this behavior to happen.

Get off my lawn! I don't mind the celebrations, it makes the game fun. As long as you aren't taunting, what's the harm?

In a general sense, I agree. If the player's reaction to a strong play is spontaneous and joyful, that's fine. But it seem 90 percent of these "celebrations" are choreographed, over-the-top and/or in-your-face.

I'm old-school in this respect. When you score or make a big play, act like you've done so before. You can be happy and excited but too many reactions are absurd.

Damn people get cranky and want to take the fun out of playing a sport, when they get old. BTW aren't you basically doing the very same thing as "wearing a shirt with a players name on it" ?

Your avatar is that of Dropkick Murphys and you are wearing that front and center every time you make a post. You might say I'm not out in public doing that but that's not true because just as many people might click on this link and see that as the guy wearing his jersey. So wearing a sports shirt or wearing the shirt of a band. Its still promoting what you like.

Joe Burrow is a QB, I think he's a damn good one but like every other person playing a sport, in a rock band, or acting in a movie. The only thing that I care about is if I enjoy them when I pay my money or spend my time watching them.

The same thing with politicians the only thing I care about is what they DO, not what they say. Hell I dont care what they do, if its not related to the job they were elected for.

Now at 25 Joe Montana sold me a Schick Razor but only one then I stopped listening to him

edit: but honestly I understand your reaction to the dancing and other things after a TD....we grew up in a different time when that wasnt done. Myself I look at it in the today, because this world is about them, those that have yet to live their life. Times change, things change, it's not my life so why do I get to put, my values on them.

You make some fair points regarding my DKMurphys avatar. Perhaps I'm been hypocritcal.

But a few things:

* I'm not trying to "be like" a DKM member (say, co-lead singer Al Barr) when I wear a Murphys T-shirt in public (which I sometimes do). Conversely, when a fan wears, for example, a Tennessee Titans jersey (I live in Nashville) with Derrick Henry's name on the back ... it is almost as if that fan is trying to "be like" Derrick Henry.

Now maybe, and in fairness, I need to lighten up. But I see a fundamental different in wearing, for example, a Titans ballcap or shirt (which is fine) as opposed to wearing a Derrick Henry jersey (which borders on "hero worshipping" and "sports nerdism").

Another example of "sports nerdism": the fan who more often wears a shirt announcing his team's national title as opposed to his wearing a shirt of his team in general. That simply seems "trying too hard."

I have a ballcap noting Vanderbilt's 2019 baseball title. But I rarely wear it. Doing so in public actually makes me a bit uncomfortable.

Again, people should be free to wear what they want and look as they wish. It's not a big deal overall. And, you are correct: I need to be fair and open-minded about it.

I guess at 60, am turning into "cranky and crusty old man Willie."

The difference between Joe Burrow and Colin Kapernick is that Joe Burrow is good.

It won't be his ego that ruins his career. It will be their suck a$$ O line.

He grew up in Athens, Ohio which is a progressive college town. Athens County has voted for the Democrat presidential candidate forever.
Yeah, but other than saying something about folks going hungry down in South Eastern Ohio during his Heisman speech I don't believe I've heard Burrow say anything not related to football...

I will be 63 in 3 months and every day it seems like I see a name of someone I grew up with in the obits. I'm not wasting the time I have left on silly crap. It actually took me till I was 60 to get to that point of letting stilly little things I have zero control over, not get to me.

I've wore a ball cap for as long as I can remember and have over 100, most of those are WKU, then PC Beach, Ft Lauderdale. I have over 50 tees of WKU and couple polo and couple button down shirt. No player jersey. I will have a WKU ball cap on 80% of the time. The shirts or tees only come out on game day unless I'm at a away game (we travel to a lot) or bowl game (only missed one) I will usually have a Western shirt on 2 to 3 days out of 5 that we are there.

You would be surprised how many of these athletes garner attention. LeBron is the number one flowerchild of wokeness and gross ignorance all rolled into his perceived Narcistic self.

I get that.

But, the issue is people trying to find depth and meaning in mindless entertainment. The problem isn’t the speaker but the listeners in this case.

Personally, people who “listen” to folks like that are great because they are by definition mindless and won’t be competing with me or my kids for anything.

Sometimes we shouldn’t get upset that people are fools.

You know I don’t disagree much with what you are saying. I devoted a mountain of time to sports as a youth played in P5 conference. Devoted a mountain of time with kids in sports and watched my girl compete in college tennis on a full ride.

But when all the kneeling and disrespect came from millionaire ingrates I was taken back. I stopped supporting that garbage and found out there is a lot more to life than keeping up with the NFL. I really have not missed it. It’s a breath of fresh air. Plus the aggravation of jerry Jones and the Cowboys no longer puts me a foul mood that my wife is thankful for.

That’s what I get growing up watching Landry coached teams.
