Noticed that nobody has mentioned how Eastern Michigan got Coach Herman Edward fired from Arizona State. It’s funny how when the MAC beats a P5 team the coach goes immediately on the hotseat. Proof that nobody respects our conference except for us. LOL.03-lmfao

I guess the MAC flag is appropriate as the opponents are thrown overboard.

Proof that all P5's and P5 friendlies sweep past these victories and close-away games, rather than discuss/expose the annual lack of talent disparity between many G5 & P5's.

NIU would have been competitive in the big12 a number of the last 20 seasons. E$PN and P5 friendly media try to forward and visualize a greater quality gap than actually exists.

ASU was a mess. Including NCAA recruiting violations, suspension of Assistants, coaching staff, and key players leaving the program. EMU just the final straw.

When did this board start respecting the MAC?
The way Arizona State fired a class act like Herm Edwards is inexcusable. I mean, come on MAN!!! Show some class...

We have seen it just this past weekend. We had our chances against a "SEC" team and if Rocky didn't leave early in the game, I would bet that his on-field leadership would have pulled us through.

It's a battle for marketshare of fans and fan money. They love to further divide D1 football and get all the talent to P5 programs to make their teams have more depth and make more money. Even the great ND is starting to get left out as conferences have learned there is strength in numbers. The flagship state universities leveraged their University of (name) to connect and identify with residents that want to be part of college football and took a lot of our fans as well.

We are a D1 FBS program. A lot of FCS programs aspire that they could be in our position(ISU) but many G5 and MAC students/fans don't realize the opportunity that their program is already in because of the smothering of BIG10 and SEC and other P5 conferences in football. It's a competitive marketplace and we could do a better job in competing.

Look at the rise of Appalachian state from FCS to FBS and they still have aspiration to go further and had some big wins the last couple years.

Look at the dominance from North Dakota State (FCS) program and wins over the years. Do you think they get tired of winning? Do you think this is an accident?

If our battle field is to win the MAC, we must be the most dominant MAC team every year and aspire to go greater. We will get more out-of-conference wins and earn more respect of our own fans and media. G5 conferences, the MAC student/fans need to respect and support their school before bandwagoning on the flagship P5 state schools for sports. This is especially difficult in football as the BIG10 swag is all over stores and media in the midwest and the media instead tries to "cancel" us instead and delegitimize the wins against any P5 conferences.

The NIU football team has been successful enough over the past 10 years that we should be selling out every game. The program has earned that respect. NIU/MAC/G5 won't get the "social proof" it needs before their own fan base starts giving it more support and respect first. Inside - out.

The NIU football program seriously needs to invest in a branding strategy that could connect with alumni/students because the fan base isn't growing in the numbers that it needs to stay competitive and give the program the support it needs.
I wish we could have dumped Carey like they did Herm Edwards.

???

We were in the MAC Championship Game in 67% of the years Rod Carey coached. He won 79% of conference games and went 4-2 against the B1G (and one loss was by a TD to the #1 team in the country).

Nebraska firing Frank Solich is considered one of the most delusional firings in college football history, and even Solich was in the CCG (50%) and won conference games (69%) less often than Carey.

In fact, I'd love to know of a single coach that qualified for the championship game in 67% of years and won 79% of conference games yet was fired for performance.
Can we *not* do the RC thing all over again? This should have been congrats to EMU as a partner MAC team, but it degraded into a they-fired-Herm Edwards lament. Who the hell cares? A MAC team beat a P5 on the road and the OP is right, except the "nobody respects our conference" includes us.

So ... kudos to EMU!
