04-cheers Fantastic!!!
and in the interest of "fair and balanced", these rankings remain very debatable as to their accuracy and worthiness, points we have discussed here in years past....... but since the latest have been released and UT is touting their improvement I felt it should be posted here.
here is one important view on these rankings from a very good source of information and debates on higher ed in the US:

"‘U.S. News’ Changes Policy on Testing"

https://www.insidehighered.com/admission...cy-testing

"The U.S. News & World Report rankings for 2023 were released today, and the top colleges are not a surprise. As in past years, Inside Higher Ed doesn’t report on the results of the rankings because of widespread concerns about the validity of ordinally ranking colleges by a single number and a sense that rankings favor wealthier institutions. (For those who are interested in the rankings themselves, we invite you to visit the magazine’s listings.)"

My personal professional opinion is that although they have some PR value, they really don't reflect a strong scientific valid process, data is often lacking, and measures not always best in terms of determining quality, but post here to let others consider their worth and whether UT placing is really news worthy and important to UT image and recruiting (as stated before, having talked to many prospective students and their parents over the years I don't think they have much influence in their decision-making) but UT admin over years has placed great significance to them and need for UT to rank higher...so take all of that with grain of salt.

It's PR value.
Always good to have positive news and reviews. A good reason to have an adult beverage when I get home.

Go Rockets!
Not sure where we were before, but a ranking of #285 is still behind, BG, Kent, Ohio U., Miami, Oh, Dayton, Cincinnati, OSU, Case Western Reserve, and Xavier just in the state of Ohio. And only ahead of Findlay in Ohio. Surprising to see the tuition numbers In state for Toledo is $11,235 - similar to BG, Ohio, Kent, Miami, Oh. and Cinci. Findlay costs $37,696?? High School GPA, and entrance test scores are available - if you pay for access.

Undergrad enrollment is down to 13,161. Seems way down - and that was from Fall, 2021

Median starting salary of graduates at Toledo is $52,800. Bowling Green - $46,100; Miami, Oh - $55,300; Ohio U - $50,000; Ohio State - $55,100.

Anyway didn't go into it much more than a quick glimpse of the rankings within Ohio and who the top colleges were. UM is now at #25. Seems to keep dropping. I think the same is happening with their MBA rankings - which used to be in the Top Ten. One of the measures used for the business school rankings was the starting salaries upon graduation, and GMAT scores. High School GPA, and entrance test scores are available - if you pay for access.

which is fine - only if it helps growth the University - aka more students, only time will tell if it has that impact, but I am doubtful it moves that needle, hey no problems with the back slaps and board gets all excited, everyone feels better- that's all fine but ultimately what does it mean for enrollment and student success, for the budget ???

yep whole system of measures and rankings has serious flaws- but hey UT is recognized among best colleges in the country 07-coffee3
UT was similarly ranked last year (250-350) but this was the first time their rankings went down to individual value. I guess any news is good news in this regard, and we are essentially in the same spot of all of our regional contemporaries, so there isn't ammo in the chamber to use against UT in recruitment anymore.
Rankings don't matter when they work against but everyone loves them when they work for. Recognitiion of forward movement is always a plus.

Median incomes mean less than average in this case. OSU will have a much higher top end. I don't think BG's top end is higher and I'd bet their low end is lower at least in numbers. A nature of the degrees offerred.

Generally speaking, what matters to a student is, do they enjoy their years and did that result in access to employment they enjoy. These and only these are the selling points that matter. As always, retention and education that focuses on creativity and risk taking, a liberal not vocational education are key.
