in 2012. We've basically lost 10,000 fans in 10 years....The crowd was a product of our 12 win season in 2011...and the beginning of
our program's destruction by the worst HC in modern NCAA history. It wasn't just the 0-12 that ELLLLLLLLLLLLoss Johnson hung around our necks, it was the disruption, and the exodus of dozens of players and thousands of fans.

Monken changes everything and finally improves the program, but he mortgaged the future by bringing in tons of transfers and JC players. Worked good for him but left us with a much smaller roster than the NCAA allows.

Next comes Hop who changes everything again with little effect, many players leave the program and leaves us in the lurch again roster-wise.

Can you muck up a program any worse than this? Can we ever get those fans back?

(the whole situation is more elaborate and insane than this, but I thought the Cliff Notes version would suffice04-cheers)

Oh yeah, uSm just signed a 2 year home and home deal with La Tech!
neat story

If you figure it out, let us know.

There are a myriad of challenges that G5 and even some P5 (UCLA) face when it comes to attendance. Obvious ones like games being on ESPN+, and less obvious ones like shifts in generational interests.

I could write a 30+ page essay on the topic and offer no real solution.

A bit of optimism is that Southern Miss is a storied program and had a longstanding culture of success, so I do think you can get those fans back.

Our issue in Lafayette is trying to attract casual fans away from their living rooms and create new fans after mediocrity for decades up until recently.

Hopson inherited multiple guys who’ve played on Sunday since, won at Kentucky in his first game, finished his first seasons 7-6 with a bowl win despite a rash of injuries, and went 8-5 in year 2. His cupboard was hardly barren. If anything, he started tanking when he had to start using his own recruits.

Every team needs a sure win on its schedule. It was between Alcorn State and La Tech so we took the sure thing

I certainly understand why you’re over here. No one to talk to on the CrapUSA board, huh? Oh well, maybe in a year you will have a few others complaining about all you mArKeTz joining the leftovers. BTW, do you guys have any facilities of your own yet?

What's wrong with the Alamodome? It's well known, temperatures in San Antonio are close to 100, and the location is more central. It's perfect. You have issues. Stop hating, it was a neat historic story, quit being a sensitive lib.
A large portion of those fans were given free tickets to fill the top to try and push a sell out for Ellos’ first home game. Another large portion were long time fans and donors that USM gave the proverbial finger over the next two to three years, and they have no intentions of coming back.

One of Hammond's first considered action as AD was to give away thousands of tickets to the first home game for a team who finished 12-2, won C-USA, and ranked in the top 25 the previous season. That team also had home games that drew over 32,000.

Just think about that for a bit.
