All of the MAC West teams have played their 1st games. Not sure any team played stunningly well.

Three teams played the P5 powers, Oklahoma State (CMU), Tenn. (BSU) and MSU (WMU).

Not sure what to make of them except CMU came on late to close on Okla. State.

EMU, TOL and NIU played FCS teams of differing abilities. Long Island U. ain't no power, in FCS. NIU beat a bad EIU team.

Quite frankly I don't know more than I did 48 hours ago.

NIU did not beat their FCS team by much and Akron I thing won in OT against their FCS opponent. From the NIU board:

Defense is very concerning still. It’s so frustrating when we rush 4 and drop everyone else in coverage yet the receiver is wide open for easy chunk yardage. Credit to EIU and their QB, but still 441 yards against them is unacceptable and I am sure Ham agrees.

The good news is that we have a lot of our defensive players back this year. The bad news is that we have a lot of our defensive players back this year.
After watching EMU in our first game, I would say we would be lucky to win 4 games. The only reason we won is because of self inflicted penalties by EKU. Looks like the prognosticators were spot on picking us only above BSU. I had so much hope for this season but came away not impressed.
USA Today has us in the Cure Bowl, Orlando, Flor-e-da.
Dear Friends,
One game a season does not make. We should have a better idea on our team after this Saturday.
emu79 is correct about pass coverage. It will get better only with pressure put on the opposing quarterback.

Ken,

You’re right one game doesn’t define a season but with all of our players and same coaching staff returnees, we either improved, stayed the same or gotten worse. I believe the first game was the same as last year. I love CC and this team but this is what I saw the first game.
