And 1993. Lost to Boise in 94 in the semis.
Yep we went back to back DII titles in '81 and '82. Moved to DI in '83 and, well, it's been a rough go so far...

FCS semis in 2005 was really the only time we've been close since.
GS national title appearances in 88 and 98 fell short.

App State lost at Montana in 2009 in the Semi Finals. Brian Quick dropped a pass in the endzone after finishing the game with 10 catches. Was the closest player to Randy Moss in the SoCon since Randy Moss until Sean Price came along and broke Moss's freshman records.

Yea that's the year Texas state took GS to the woodshed in what was shaping up to be an easy run through the playoffs to the championship. That loss completely changed the direction of GS and to be honest we've never fully recovered. That loss was to convincing in the first round. Pitch forks came out and we fired a coach with a cumulative record of 35 and 14. Following that loss the slow very painful back and forth 16 year transition away from the 3/0 has taken it's toll. Crazy reactions to transition coaches firing them before any change could take hold over and over. We're hopefully finally in a place that the transition is complete.

Oh, you'll probably go back at some point, right?
I'll try to do some digging, I'm sure there's a database somewhere, and look at all other sports.
I know we've got a recent soccer natty on our resume, I'd like to see what some of our conference mates have done in other sports

This...pretty much sums it up. This was the first game I watched of GS. I was a senior in high school. I fell asleep on it when we were up big...like 35-14 or so...woke up with like 2 mins left in the 4th and it was 40-35 TxSt. Mass disorientation then occurred. I'd alter it a little to say that we found decent stablility when Monken came in (although Hatcher would have eventually gotten on track...he had a tough job in front of him). Then Monken left and it's been mostly repeated bad decisions.
I suppose it’s of interest historically to account for all NCs, however, as a D1, FBS league I would think the SBC would want to stress only D1 NCs. The NAIA, DII stuff…anything not attached to the NCAA D1 label implies (to me) a small-time outlook.

Proud of everyone’s past, but only D1 championships count now.

Anything's possible but going back is highly doubtful at this point. To many variables forced the latest transition and it appears unlike in the past much of the fan base is resigned to giving CCH the time needed to fully transition. I'm 100% certain of that. Truly a shame! Watching GS win with the 3/0 has been an outstanding ride. Imagine beating Florida in the swamp without completing a pass. You have to be a fan to truly understand how cool that is. It's been fun. We now hope that talent had as much to do with those kinds of wins as did the ole timey offense. Their just different now.

Off the top of my head, in addition to the MU soccer title you mentioned, there's:
ODU and JMU have field hockey titles.
ODU has women's basketball titles - these are the only titles won while a SBC member
CCU has the baseball world series win from the day before they joined the SBC
JMU has wlax and archery titles
That's pretty much it. At least that is all listed on wikipedia.

But I wouldn't be surprised to learn there were DII, NAIA titles out there as well. Also, I think there are some non-NCAA club level stuff out there too. Doesn't App have a championship in mountain biking or something like that? I seem to recall Ark St guys talking about rugby winning titles.

Do they still have field hockey? That'd be fun to watch

ODU, JMU, and App play field hockey, and Coastal has a club team. The SBC announced they were "exploring" sponsoring the sport but without more full members playing, I'd put that in the "somewhere between unlikely to down the road" catagory.

It is a lot of fun to watch - its probably my favorite sport to watch behind only football and ice hockey. My daughters and I went to the App-UNC game yesterday. It wasn't pretty for the Mountaineers sadly.
Some national championship logos...
