Don't expect realignment info. But reading this should help any poster develop a better filter for Realignment BS Blogs and Articles which are designed for hits, and articles which understand the protocols conferences employ to avoid lawsuits and why quiet times, like now, really are when things could be happening, and not the rumor filled times of what happens next which always follows actual news and is just cheap audience for the mushroom reporters who've been kept in the dark as well, and dare not admit it.
There is a Palpatine out there pulling all the strings. No need to read further...;-)

If that was your takeaway you didn't read, or didn't comprehend, the article. The article is about how process explains disinformation and why beat writers Utubers, and bloggers know nothing and are not in any loop. In that the writer does you a service. And he accurately describes the landscape shaping PAC 12 / B12 talk, and explains why.

If I gave neg rep you would have gotten one for your post.
I'm gonna read it in a bit. Reading the other SI article... I was joking:-]
This reinforces my suspicion that many wheels are turning behind the scenes right now. As you've noted before, when big things really do happen (OUT, USCLA) they aren't preceded by parrots jabbering endlessly on the internet about the moves. To date I've seen no real commitments from Big XII or ACC schools to their conferences since the LA bombshell dropped, and only half-hearted ones from some PAC schools that are more about being committed to staying at the highest level than about moving forward together.

The article does an excellent job of explaining the complex dance of realignment that parties engage in to shield the adding conference from liability. I remain convinced that schools not already in or on their way to the P2 are frantically working the phones to generate and evaluate their options. All while they put on their best reassuring smile for the Commissioner, coo & giggle properly over his TV deal updates, and insist that here at School X we are just focused on the rapidly approaching season...

Absolutely. GOR's are legal documents. That sets a tone in which attorneys hold their best legal cards in reserve and use surprise reveals as their best means to an end. And those reveals are heavily researched, and troubleshot, and role played before things happen.

Applications must precede official talks. And certainly, must precede any official vote. Knowing these things means you can spot a bogus article a mile off. It's why in reporting on SEC memberships when someone reports that some school received a no vote, or opposition, they don't know what they are talking about. The SEC won't extend an invitation unless they have approved the applicant in advance, and formal votes do not permit a negative vote to be cast. An abstention means some president for political reasons can't vote yes.

While there are, of course, some outdated thoughts in his writings, to be sure - in general, more people should read and learn from those works

Oh, so now I have to go and watch umpteen Star Wars movies now, to find out who that is and what he is doing. Ugh! Think I'll just wait for actual announcements.

Good find JR.

The (somewhat) interesting angle to these articles is whether veteran reporters like Dodd, Wilner and Canzano fully believe what they write or they're simply content to spread often dubious information from sources eager to win the narrative (e.g. conference commissioners) just for clicks

It certainly appears to me to be a case of self-interest for Wilner who likely doesn't see a good gig covering the Big 10 and has an identity tied to the PAC. I enjoyed his willingness to discuss negatives with positives in the past. His objectivity seems to be an absent quality now. Canzano is just driving hits. Dodd seems to me to be the biggest PAC mouthpiece for driving a narrative which Wilner appears quite willing to support.

Case in point, 3 years ago Wilner was the only writer out there claiming Texas and Oklahoma heading to the SEC was logical and likely if realignment started back up. When the news broke, he was among the first to express shock and outrage. When I read that I immediately thought "politics" and I'm not talking red and blue but NCAA/B1G/PAC politics. The birth of the "Alliance" cinched my suspicion.

Ultimately one believes in the strength of legal documents like the GoR or the will of powerful institutions to get what they want regardless of a signed agreement.

There really is no in between here.

I believe in the viability of economic synergy and the mutual malleability of compromise.

Translation: If enough parties can turn a tidy profit they will find a way.
There have been articles that came out from Arizona State, Colorado and Utah that have debunked the rumors that they will join the Big 12.

Not too surprised about who and where, or even why, but usually surprised as to "how".

I don't know that Wilner has ever been truly "objective." What I see now is not blatant nonsense like Canzano, but more "wishful thinking."
