Many have speculated that the future of CFB is a p2 but what if it is actually a P1. UT and OU will not join the SEC till after USC and UCLA will join the B1G. I know it is crazy, but they are technically not committed to the SEC till there is a contract in hand. It would be the coup of the century, but paired with ND you would have an incredible superleague, that could not be matched for brands.

What would the offer have to be? Would others from the SEC start trying to leave?
I'm sure the ink is already dry on their contracts. So no-go.

Texas and Oklahoma long ago considered joining the B1G Ten. They long ago considered every other option. They decided to move to the SEC.

So the answer is no. They really are sure about this. 07-coffee3

But are they cross-their-hearts-hope-to-die sure?
They already could have done it. They chose the SEC
But that was before the B1G pulled off USC and UCLA alone. I still think that ND/UT are The B1G targets for 17/18, and the B1G won’t make any other additions that weaken their prospects of those two.

The B1G is one UT short of really taking a large financial lead over the SEC. The SEC depends on UT to maintain parity. And when UT has leverage, they like to use it. I think things are going to get really interesting as the SEC’s GoR nears its expiration.

You could just as easily say the SEC is one Michigan short of leaving the Big Ten in the dust. The reality is neither is happening.
There is a Power 1. It's the SEC. UT & OU further cement that.

Why would I, as a Texas fan, trade yearly games with A&M, OU, Arkansas & every other year games with Florida, Georgia, Alabama, LSU to play Ohio State once in a blue moon?

Even the Big 10 bluebloods don't want to regularly play Northwestern, Minnesota, Nebraska, Rutgers, Maryland, or Purdue. Why would we?

Those Shorts are really well done. But isn't it just a matter of time before UTx finally figures it out and with more consistency than their peak moments in the past? It's not like there's something in the red dirt that's preventing it. We all could have said the same thing about UGA not long ago. Same with even mighty Bama for the majority of the 80's/90's/early 00's (save '92). If I had to pick 3 SEC horses to win the most SEC's and NC's in the next 25 years...I'm taking UTx, UGA and Bama.
That would be the coup of the century and definitely tip the balance of power. Unfortunately, I think it’s too late to flip them. Too bad no one came up with the idea of adding all 4 of those schools 2 yrs ago.

Many of UT's peak moments came in the 1960's and early 1970's when Texas A&M was still moving away from its history as an all-male military college and was playing in an aging 41,000 seat stadium. It's now an equal competitor for every recruit UT used to be able to pick up in the state, and with better facilities.

They chose to lose a lot more games than they are used to. At least they would have been competitive. Big Ten wanted Texas but not sure about Oklahoma, especially after the US News WR fiasco.

Sux to be the B1G, I guess. 07-coffee3

Or, the SEC and Big Ten could just merge, either formally or informally and leave everyone in their dust. A "bowl" game between their champions would be a de facto national championship. They don't even need to expand further or leave the NCAA to accomplish P1. 32 teams is all they need, and the NCAA can't stop them from having their own CFP.

Think how much money networks would pay for two 6-team conference championship tournaments plus that bowl game. Must see TV.
Imagine, OU, UT, ND, USC, FSU, Miami, UNC, UVa, Stanford all joining BIG. Would maybe finally compete with SEC on the field.

Won’t happen
No, but furthermore why would they want to? Similar or better money than the B1G (depending on who signed their deal last), better local rivals with Texas A&M, LSU, & Arkansas being in-conference rivals for both. Additional great matchups vs Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, and even Tennessee (when they get good). The only benefit I see would be academic, but academics are not sufficient to reverse a move like the one they just made.
I believe it is possible. I have long thought the B1G's new deal would put it substantially ahead of even the SEC going forward, which could prompt such a switch.

I have long held that the SEC's 2008 deal has and will continue to tamp down its earnings compared to the B1G, and I think this might come to a head when the new B1G deal is announced. Over the past 15 years, the B1G has IMO been smarter about TV deals, by keeping its eggs in separate baskets and most importantly, by signing shorter deals to capture rising rights fees.

Others disagree. We soon shall see, I've been wrong before.

Are you one of those old people who only remembers the distant past? Ever heard of Vince Young? Colt McCoy? From 2000-2009 Texas had the 2nd highest winning % after Boise St. Texas was ranked in the top 13 every year and top 10 seven of 10 years.

I’m with Quo on this one. When ND finally has to move, the B1G will look to pair them with UT.
