Steve, I came to EMU in 1974 to play baseball and while I was not good enough for the super teams then, the facility was on par with U-M's Perry Field at the time and actually attracted the interest of MLB minor league franchises that died only because of state laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol. It was a damned good facility in 1974!
Oestrike today, however, differs little today from what it was 50 years ago, other than the artificial turf infield. The video you posted about the WSU facility makes our BB field look HS in nature. Honestly, I think it needs FAR more investment than just chairback seats, perhaps a total redo instead. Would that be wise for a sport that due to weather conditions, seldom attracts 500 fans?
As far as the padding on the fences, I am all for it. Will Kid Rock help with the cost of keeping Michael Sacha's name on the fence? More importantly, what about the foul lines in the outfield? There is very little room between the foul line and the surrounding fence, a far larger safety problem in my opinion. Just sayin, let me know what you think.

This is more maintenance than a re -build.

The bubble needs to because we can rent it out. Also other sports teams use it. And they just spent nearly $1 million replacing the turf.

The original grand plan was for a facility to supersede the IPF. To be used for indoor T&F, etc.
As Super indicates the plan was to rent out the IPF.
The bottom line, as I believe is that T&F indoor and outdoor co-located on main campus, i.e. Bowen + New outdoor track.

Yes. AND put it where the West stands are. Indoor seating for football. New facilities for broadcasting, force 90% of the fans to sit where the cameras point....
My guess? The NCAA facilities arms race is heading for a detente or cooling off period. The money that went into bricks and mortar is now going to be headed to the NIL collective.
I'd really be interested in how much outside revenue we generate from the bubble and the potential increase if we built a permanent facility.
Where is the new track going? Some of you have said it's going at the former softball Varsity Field by Cornell Street. I don't think that property is big enough for the facility and parking lot. I think it's going to be in the open land south of the intramural fields parking lot.

I was told several years ago. That it costs over $25,000 a month to keep it inflated.

Steve, for me this is a whole lot of fluff and a solution in search of a problem to fix. The VIP parking lot was great when you could access the Gervin restrooms, last season you could not. Seats that protect you from weather? If it is raining and soaking my seats, I'm either watching from the Gervin Atrium or at home on TV. Leg room has NEVER been a problem at Rynearson. Just my opinion.
Nil money should be considered as a scholarship. The person is being paid to attend college. As with any other scholarship if you receive more than what it cost for a required scholarship at the college or university one scholarship must be reduced to fit the requirement. If the nil money is less than that amount then said scholarship is reduced my the nil amount. If the nil money is more than the scholarship that other students get. Then that athlete already has an outside scholarship and the school shouldn't be required to offer one. Would an employer like it if someone paid you for the same as they were paying you? It's like getting two pay checks for doing the same job. It's like getting two scholarships for the same purpose.
