about $100,000 per game is the rate for those level schools to pay a recognizable mid major. back in the day MAC schools would use that money to buy home games with mid-low majors but few do that any more (Ohio, Akron usually buy a couple games). after travel expenses it's not big money buy helps cover some program costs.
My philospohy is get after em early. Sometimes, you can sneak in an upset against a big name team that hasn't gelled yet. Last year, a weak NIU team went into Washington and beat them in the first week of the season. Washington ended up with a winning Pac12 record and NIU was generally lousy in MAC play.

A tough non-con schedule is nothing new. A G5, or in BB non P5, will ALWAYS play several nigh-impossible to win or be competitive in, road non-con games.
