I'm not sure how it works in baseball as compared to football or basketball where the drafted player goes to the new league right away.
Do baseball players get to stay at their school and develop further? Or are they done at their school after being drafted and considered professionals now?
I thought I remembered when baseball players continued to play at their college teams, but maybe that has changed now? Or perhaps it depends on how high a player is drafted if they leave college and report to an affiliate of the MLB team that drafted them?

Once you sign a contract with a MLB team you are put into their minor league system and play for one of their minor league teams or in their instructional camps.

I could of swore (it was probably years ago that in baseball some players stayed with their college teams after being drafted for another year or so).
I’m pretty sure that still happens sometimes with hockey players when drafted they stay with their team for a bit or may go to a minor league affiliate of the parent club. I’m not sure why some hockey players do that but it may be on a case by case basis determined by the drafting team.
Would have been nice to get another year out of our Baseball Chips that were drafted, but oh well.

In the NHL teams retain "NHL rights" for 3-4 years after they draft a player. In MLB those rights are retained for a much shorter time. Kumar Rocker was the big example last year when the Mets didn't sign him..he reentered the draft this year and was picked #3 overall by the Rangers.
