Quote:6. Memphis

Enrollment: 20,585
Alumni Base: 165,000
Media Market: 51
US News & World Report Latest Ranking: 249
AAU Member: No
Tier 1 Research: Yes
Stadium Size: Liberty Bowl, 58,325

Pros: Decent media market. Tier 1 school. Hotbed area for football. Good hoops.
Cons: Media market isn’t that great. Academic rankings just okay. Decent enrollment but not giant.
Best Power Five Fit: Big 12
Bottom Line: This should soon be an easy call for the Big 12. It fits right in with the city football schools from the AAC like Cincinnati and Houston, and it’s in easy range of Oklahoma and Texas.

Can someone explain...."Media Market is not that great". I am assuming it means that the reach of our market fan base is limited to the Memphis area and thus we do not cast a big net in terms of geographic coverage/popularity.

Exactly, clearly we are no East Carolina. Easily the most idiotic article I've seen yet.

That article is just ranking the population size in the media market - so Memphis is not as big as San Diego, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Denver, Philadelphia, etc.
Now, if they rated us based on a city's airport...
May have already been posted but this article is closer to reality.

"The domino effect from the top conferences making moves often includes some programs moving up from the Group of 5 into the Power 5.

So which are the top programs that could be in line to make a jump? There really isn’t one school that stands much taller than the rest."

Boise State (63rd)
South Florida (67th)
Memphis (69th)
Army (71st)
Navy (73rd)
East Carolina (74th)
Temple (75th)
Fresno State (76th)
Colorado State (78th)
Wyoming (79th)

very cool article, thanks
UNLV doesn't belong on that list. They are an inferior academic school with absolutely zero fan support. When you see that you immediately dismiss the whole thing.
