ODU Podcasters the Monarchists interviewed Commissioner Keith Gill the other day.

He speaks on new sports, the 5-10 year basketball plan, the thought process behind SBC realignment, bowl tie-ins, etc. Pretty good ~20 minute listen. Some ODU centric stuff but a lot of general purpose info

Commissioner Gill is awesome. He was gracious in giving us time out of his busy schedule and couldn’t have been nicer. Our experience interviewing him only further cemented our faith in his leadership. Dude is a star.

Not that we're the SEC, but the majority of SEC teams do pretty well focusing on football and baseball. Basketball just doesn't move the needle like football and baseball at many SBC schools. The SEC comparison is cultural. Kentucky and North Carolina like basketball as well as the former Southern states of Maryland and Virginia. I don't think it's a coincidence that the good basketball schools in those states have less success on the grid iron. When resources are limited, the priority will be football for most SBC schools.

Keith Gill understands football drives the boat here and realignment but being a former AD at Richmond, he knows the flip side of that where basketball is more prioritized and that's big part of why I expect gradual improvement over several SBC programs over time to take the league to that next level. Nice episode.

Really appreciate you sharing our episode ODU-Z8. Just like ODU officials, Mike and I connected with the commissioner quickly. This is a good move for ODU!
