Lord help us. Lol

Agree.
Man. UAB fans. SMH.
None of this is surprising.

You don't make All-State as a 180-pound lineman without sacrificing your body. He was eventually going to pay the price. And then he tried to pretend he could grit his way through it, like he had for almost 40 years.

Meanwhile, Ray is fapping.

UAB coach Bill Clark in his news conference says the decision to retire was still in question even last night. His back, best case, can fully recover after surgery in six months. Didn't rule out coming back.

03-shhhh

That was a wishful interpretation of Clark's answer by Goodman. He said he wouldn't say the word "never" as far as coaching again in general, not necessarily in regards to returning to UAB. If he had any intention of returning to UAB he would be taking a leave of absence not "retiring".

My opinion is he's now maxed out his state retirement and will be coaching again this time next year at another job. But this allows him to leave in an indirect way so he can he say he never left UAB for another job.

No inside info, but wouldn't be surprised if that's his plan

Folks can get mad about it but it's a great plan and it's not like Bill is the first coach from this state to go that route. I don't buy that the final decision was made 24 hours before the announcement, not that it matters. It's done. Now it's up to UAB to decide the next step. Personally I would prefer David Reeves as Head Coach if we go with an interim. Purely because his unit has performed better. He's the 2 time Broyles nominee. Seems to me he's earned the shot before Vincent.

I agree about Reeves, but Vincent was already Assistant Head Coach, so it's just succession.

What I feel most sick about is that Vincent is the interim. Vincent has been the worst part of this program since he started, and now there is not way that the offense gets a refresh.

I'm a die hard UAB fan, but I'm cool with us having a down year if it means getting a new coach that will bring our offense into the 21st century. I hope David Reeves stays forever.

Getting big time Ehsan vibes here, and we all know how that turned out.

I agree in a general sense, with one caveat in the interest of fairness. Vincent ran the offense that fit with how Bill Clark wanted the team to play. I don't know that we have ever seen what he can do unfettered.

That said, I'm still not impressed.
I saw where someone mentioned Phil Fulmer and the Tennessee experience as a reason Coach Clark should cut ties to the program. The reason I’m not worried about that is Bill Clark isn’t a megalomaniacal, backstabbing asshat like Fulmer

I think that the same could be said about some of the other in-state FBS coaches. I imagine that if you are going to get fired, it is going be for decisions that you made instead of those made for you by someone else.
Anyway, will be interesting to see if we bring in an extra offensive assistant, possibly a QB coach wince HCBV has his hands full. I suspect that the offensive game plan will be to score more points than the opposition but I could be wrong.
These last 5 years when UAB won three division titles, two championships and were 1 inch from playing for another and had two different 1000 yard RBs, two WR who developed into NFL prospects, a third that led nation in YPG and an NFL tight end — all of these players who were barely, the offense was not trying to score. Got it.

I’ve wondered that too. I think John Grass would be a good addition & he’s currently an analyst at Clemson.
It might need to be someone on staff or someone local. Going to be hard to convince someone to move to Birmingham for what could possibly be a six month job.

It's important to note: The official UAB release announcing Clarks retirement did not mention his reasoning nor did it mention anything about who would be coaching the team this fall.

YPC, right? I assume Shropshire is who you are talking about, and ypc and ypg are very different stats.

The offense was very, very methodical by today’s standards. I believe it’s good to allow your defense to rest, but there are numerous instances where I feel like we pulled off the gas a little too early, when we really could have blown a game open.

Yeah the answer to this is pretty obvious to me.

Anyone who’s played fantasy football or watched football at all knows that a couple of players Or more can put up big stats even on a bad offensive team, especially if said player is a RB in a run heavy, methodical offense like UAB’s.

Additionally, don’t act like we were winning championships and divisions in the SEC… Our strength of schedule and level of competition was not very good… And we STILL put up pretty bad offensive numbers most of the time.

IF Clark is not coming back, we are making a huge mistake keeping the current assistants as head coach and not moving forward on a real replacement hire.
We don’t have a choice this season, it’s whatever at this point. You bring in a new staff, and you risk losing players left and right. Hopefully the guys succeed, I just don’t want a good team and a reasonable schedule to make that a simple transition to automatically getting the job.
Has Mark Ingram made any public comments yet regarding Coach Clark's retirement?
