This is the only mention I have heard of new turf. Was I asleep while this was being discussed, or is this a surprise to others too?

Why not put this in the main forum rather than the recruiting forum?

I suppose I’m in a questioning mood today.

It's discussed on the main board - it's just buried in the thread about schools leaving the AAC...

Well, thanks for this thread. I was never inclined to read that other stuff, so missed the info.

Hey Covington, don't know if you have noticed but all three of the Tipton county high schools have had turf put in their stadiums this summer.

I am excited about this upgrade. Started a thread on Coach T about it as soon as this change was proposed.

One of the things my Covington Charger football squads have had to face in the past is that the State Championship game is played on artificial turf. That’s a big disadvantage for a team that plays their games on natural turf. Covington has had to find a place to practice that has artificial turf in order to prepare for the Championship game. That’s 5 times since the 2000 season.

The second thing is that despite having one of the best grass fields in West Tennessee, late playoff runs in rainy weather have sometimes turned the Covington Athletic Field into a muddy mess. The Crestview Middle School team also plays on that field, so it gets lots of use.

The Charger coaching staff is excited to get rid of the watering, mowing, painting, etc. that goes with a grass field.

So, yes, I am aware of the change.
This is routine in updating field with new turf every 7 years or so. Not a big deal just improved turf with better wear and grip.
