Quote: The Sun Belt’s new ESPN deal is expected to pay $1.5 to $2 million annually to each school and newcomers JMU, ODU and Marshall each do relatively well in ticket sales. All three averaged more than 4,100 fans per game last :nutkick:season and each would have led the Sun Belt in attendance for 2021-22."

That JMU writer later tweeted that the Athletic Dept corrected his statement to Total Conference revenue.

So that’s not ESPN media deal he was referring too that is total conference distribution from the Sunbelt

That’s been talked about ad nauseam on here. Where have you been?

There are no sources for this ESPN Sunbelt deal absolutely none. Post just 1 source please because that JMU article was referring to total conference distribution which was corrected in tweet from the JMU athletic dept official.

That's not what the tweet was referencing, and when you dig it up, you'll realize the error you made. For someone who talks about our media deal 50X more than any SBC poster, you make a lot of mistakes.

Wait…..what’s the total conference distributions again?

Question:

As far-fetched as it may seem, is there any conceivable realignment scenario that could possibly generate a broadcasting deal worth $2M/year (or more) per school (the minimum amount that the other four G5 conferences are receiving) for the CUSA?

If so, what is it, and what would it take to make it happen?

.

To get to the 2M/year per school you are asking about would take the current TV partners (CBSSN, Stadium, ESPN+) to re-up no later than 2025 and double the current deal. (from 6.4M to 12.8M) This would give each memeber school 1.4M and then CUSA would have to take the 18M in exit fees (from the six leaving) and commit to give each of the 9 500K over the next four years. That would give each team 1.9M before they distro 1M plus from the CFP.

I think what is more realistic is that CUSA re-ups at the rate of 6.5M-9.5M. (paying each school anywhere from 711K - 1M) and then the conf committing to distro the 18M in exit fees at a rate of 500K per year over four years so that the teams would have 1.2M to 1.5M before the CFP distro of 1M. Not that in 2025 the CFP distro will go up, it will go up for all G5 schools, I am guessing it will double to 2M, but whatever it jumps to it will be on top of the CUSA distributions.

Will CUSA members get less than the six teams that bolted for the AAC? Yes, but it really is not that much less. CUSA will survive and could even thrive as they rebrand once again.
I'm about 99.97% certain that there is no combination of FCS teams we could add at this point in time which would make ESPN or other networks throw their babies at us.

Yes, including NDSU.

Can we hit the $2M/year/school mark? Yes. But it won't come from realignment, and it won't happen in this round of media negotiations.

It's a simple process, but each of the CUSA 4.0 teams will have to be committed every step of the way:

1) Win.

More sources that confirm the 2 million: Virginia Legislature.

The 2 million is about the same figure nearly every SBC AD and beat writer have stated since the moves were first announced a few years ago.

Also going to quote this post from the SBC board and local Hattiesburg article/sit down with USM AD:

(07-29-2023 11:13 AM)GhostofTheChosenOne Wrote: [ -> ]In leaving Conference USA a year early, USM had to forfeit a year of the SBC’s distribution and pay CUSA a $1.75 million exit fee. Conference USA also withheld a portion of its distribution to USM. In total, the cost of the school’s transition was potentially as high as $4.15 million. While the exact figure of the SBC’s per school media distribution pool is still unknown, McClain says it’s enough to “make us whole again and then some” when it receives its first SBC share this year.
